Button ending too much? - "You Are" (Loving You)
Song is called "You Are (Loving you)
Made this tune a while back, this is how it has gone for us
Dave (Piano): "Rob, Do you ever write any happy songs?"
Rob (Guitar / Vocals): "how about this?"
Dave: "we had better record it quick"
Dave (2 months and a few gigs later): "I never want to play that song ever again "
When this was first recorded we had the button ending, I wasn't so sure (reminded me of something on an an xfactor show, where they cut off a song just so it fits)
here it is in its entirety with lyrics with the button ending.
http://www.new4.co.uk/sound/tunes/
Could this be worth a resurrect/post to a listing, or I file away never to return!
Happy either way to finally put this one in front or behind.
Button ending or fade out (somewhere around "the day I met you" line) ?
I don't have access to the mix anymore sadly, all I could change on this recording would be its mastering.
Thank you loads
Rob
PS sorry for the typo on the song title in the mp3 tagging

Hi Rob
Almost sounds like something from a long time ago.
The drum starts out cool, but it gets to you a little later on.
You have a very appealing voice, but you have some notes that are off.
I have the same problem with endings. Ha Ha
Someone else is going to have to address that.
Liked your tune:)

Thanks Paul! Much appreciate your comments!
Drums yes, I get that now you say , maybe the snare is a little too sharp after a while, perhaps get that with some eq.
I could probally do that with wavelab mastering, or do you know anyother mastering/final eq tools that are better, make light work, instant brilliant results haha.
Off vocals, ergggh yes! think I got that, the vocals do toy with being slightly out/quirky but too far here, I agree, on the last chorus yes?
I might be able to do a cheeky slice of an earlier good section as no access to the parts anymore
Thank you loads!

Maybe part of it is just the lack of more contrast in the sections. Not necessarily the chords, either.
I was wanting to hear some harmonies on the chorus, but I'm into that right now.
ending did not stand out to me either way (not 100% sure what you mean by "button ending")

Hi Rob
I liked this song and think your voice is just as good as anything that I hear out there in the "indie" world today. I agree that the drums are a little overkill. Coming out of the bridge I'd probably silence the drums and sing one of the chorus refrains with just piano and vocals, then kick everything else back in when you keep repeating the chorus. And I also noticed there's not much of a build in the song. The instrumentation is the same throughout it and could use some diversity. The chorus could be a little bigger with some tasteful electric guitar fills and vocal harmony. I don't write lyrics, so can't comment on that. Drum playing is solid. Also, I'm a big fan of abrupt endings, but that was a little too abrupt, in my opinion. Anyway, hope it helped a little bit. Good luck!

Thanks Gregg, its a pain but I can't change anything on this recording for arrangement (parts long gone) as your ideas sound top, I would love to try, I agree on the build and the space you suggest about dropping the drums would probally do it for the overkill!
bfl, thanks, the harmonies is something I could try as an overlay! I like that idea too, simple and may be the contrast needed as you and Gregg state.
My apologies, "Button Ending" is a term I heard Micheal use on the broadcasts, essentially the opposite of a fadeout I understood.
Thanks guys your top!
