I have an API eq, but it is difficult to find the exact point where to boost without making nearby frequencies pop out and change the characteristics of the mic. Economics I am sure. I normally use the Telefunken but there are times I would rather have a solid state sound and not the tube sound. You have a great microphone, so wonderfully versatile, and I wouldn't trade it for anything if I were you!!!
Neuman and Telefunken's are on my Christmas list but I enjoy window shopping them!!! Having a broad mic pallet is NICE I'm sure, mine is growning for sure as I save my pennies. I'm thinking the 414 will make a great addition to the things I take to my grave...

I spent another few hours with the C414... HOLY!!! From every perspective this mic is head and shoulders over my Octavia 219, my Cascade M20a and M20 and my DR2 Ribbon, the clearity is really amazing. On my monitor mix its even made a big difference on how well I can hear myself and keeping good pitch is SO much easier! My light reverb also tranlates better... My parnter heard some of the stuff I'm currently working on and even HE was impressed and this guy is TOUGH! The more I dig into gear the more I learn there are no shortcuts to broadcast quality...

Yes, the 414 is a really nice mic, a classic and for good reason. There is really no substitute for a great instrument and a great mic really is an instrument. Once you've experienced great sound it's hard to go back. Bummer!! ;) ;)

the 414 can be the perfect mic

it is slightly bright so is sometimes great if a voice needs more presence and detail ......which is often found with male voices

This bright detailed sound is why its in every good mic locker.

Fantastic on ac guitar, overheads etc.

Heres my favourite 414 trick you might well know.... use the figure of 8 and another mic with figure of 8 to record a vox/gtr performance with great seperation
