Road Rally 2010 - what to expect

Post by kclements » Tue Apr 06, 2010 5:33 pm

Hello everyone -

As I have said before, I am completely new to Taxi after thinking about joining for what seems like forever. And I am really excited about going to the Rally - but what should I expect? Seems like a ton of things happens during the big event and I want to prepare as much as possible, so I thought I would put this out there and see what you have to say -

What are the top 5 things I should know/do/think about/have with me/eat... before getting on the plane and heading to LA?
Thanks for your suggestions. So looking forward to meeting you all in person (or at least, some of you!)

1) plan to arrive Thursday if at all humanly possible. If you wait until Friday - all the best mentor spots will be taken. (brag - I usually sell out Thursday night 8-) )

2) Do your research in advance - what driver's ed classes do you want to take? Who are the mentors and what do you want to get out of it.

3) bring business cards and CD's, and purell (to keep yourself from getting sick from shaking all those hands!)

4) Have a post-taxi plan for following up with your contacts - specific scheduled days, and a system for managing the information

5) Go to have fun and initiate relationships. Don't be looking for the "big break" - it may happen (I've seen it happen to a few folks over the years), but go with the intention of initiating relationships that you will follow up on in the coming months. This is a career, right - you're building it one brick at a time.

Hi Kayle
If you search through this part of the forum. (Rally Open Topic)... go back many pages, you'll find lots of advice about the rally. When you find something you want to refer to later, bookmark a link to that page of the forum.

Here is one of many threads:
http://forums.taxi.com/topic10370.html

I know Vikki (hummingbird) posted a lot of great info the past two years.

I hope to meet you in November! 8-)

Once again - a little research goes a long way - I found this thread http://taxi.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa ... hread=9009 and it answered the dot question, plus a ton of other questions -

Thanks for the info everyone. I am really looking forward to my first Road Rally.

Hi Kayle,

Welcome aboard! You can also go to: http://www.taxi.com/rally/ and click Ballroom Panels and Breakout Classes in the left hand side bar to see what we offered last year. It will give you an idea of the scope of what is offered, not the least of which is meeting your fellow members :)
