"Taxi related" deals and stuff

Post by davewalton » Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:21 am

There is *so* much more to Taxi than just direct deals from forwards. There are also opportunities that come about as an "indirect" result of Taxi... getting to know and work with other Taxi members and people that they know. I won't mention names, not because I'm not grateful but to keep lurkers from sending "Hey, how about me?" emails and PM's to those people. Here are a few recently...

A track of mine was licensed for "live theatre" by a company in the UK that specializes in children's music and activities. This from an opportunity through another Taxi member and forum-ite

A co-write track was accepted into a hard-to-get-into music library that I've been trying to get into for quite a while. It's that "co-write" with another Taxi/forum member that did the trick.

I had (or rather am having) a placement into an episode of "Forensic Files". This through a library that I contacted as a result of an interaction at a Taxi Rally

I have a new library relationship where I'm paid upfront for each track. This from an interaction at another music conference but one that I attended only through the recommendation of others I met at the Taxi Rally.

I have another new library deal as a result of a referral (when the owner asked about other composers) by another Taxi member that is also in that library. It's a unique arrangement where it's a small library with a composer/owner with lots of good opportunities.

Anyway... for all those new or who are still waiting for that "first deal"... keep doing the daily deal... write new music, learn from the Taxi critiques and from the other forum members. Get to know people, attend the Rally if at all possible and things will eventually fall into place.

Great post Dave! I have been thinking about this a lot lately too. While I have had no direct deal from a TAXI forward so far (been a member for two years) I have much to thank TAXI for. Because of contacts I have made through TAXI + things I have learned through TAXI and from other forum members I have signed with 4 music libraries, scored a TV ad, orchestrated a feature, scored several short films + a couple of documentaries. While these were not a direct result from a forward I would not have known enough to pursue these gigs (and deliver and excellent product) had it not been for TAXI.

You said it really well -

Thanks for posting this and congratulations on all your successes!!! You are a great inspiration. :)

No... no theme song for anything that prominent. I only write themes for stuff nobody ever heard of. This was just a placement through a music library.

Never underestimate the power of networking. Dave is a power networker, and that's a HUGE part of the Road Rally experience. In fact, my gig writing for daytime TV came about from networking at the Road Rally.

Great stuff Dave! Inspirational.
