Installing Logic in a fresh system
I've been using Logic since version 3. Over the years I've copied my system into new computers, installed new versions of Logic over old ones, etc... Now I've got folders all over the place with duplicate files, missing files etc... It's kind of a mess. I want to install Logic Studio 8 and then the v9 upgrade in a new system. I'm wondering if there is a consensus on where best to put things. I use a system drive, a second internal drive for samples and a third internal drive for audio. I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on a Mac Pro quad core. Of specific concern is where to put Apple loops and Jam Packs, I tried putting them on the sample drive before but that seems to have created some problems. Any opinions?
Thanks
Thanks

Putting samples on a separate drive is a good idea. Just install them normally to the system drive. Then move them to whatever drive you want carefully noting where they came from and then add aliases for each sample folder pointing to their new destination. Sorry if this sounds complicated, but it's not - I just don't know a better way to explain it.
It's really very straightforward. Let us know if you have questions.

Elser, you sound as bad as I am,lol!!! I have tried cleaning my system up a few times, but sometimes I go too far, and sometimes end up with even more duplicates and missing files, even have permanently deleted a few sample files by accident that I can never retrieve again. I know, "if it works don't fix it". I don't do that any more, it never works any better, if you need to fix something fine, but what difference does it make really, just because it's not orderly? If worse comes to worse I'd just keep adding hard drives, lol!

Re: Installing Logic in a fresh system
There's a program for the Mac that will search your system for all the directories, files, and other "hidden" stuff that gets left behind during clean-up or un-installs. I cannot remember the name of it off-hand, but I will check when I get home. You can use the trial version for free and buy it if you like it. It might be $50. Well worth it, IMO. I've used it and it works well. I'll find out later tonight and reply when I have the name. Cheers.

Re: Installing Logic in a fresh system
Thanks Wes, that program would be helpful. After a day of research I think I'll just move the EXS samples to a second drive and leave everything else where it is. A lot of the other stuff is sample based content, but when you move it around the directories just get too complicated.
