ELECTRONICA/DANCE INSTRUMENTALS....Y#100427EL

Post by garrettmiller » Sun Apr 18, 2010 9:57 pm

I'm working on something to submit to:

ELECTRONICA/DANCE INSTRUMENTALS in the wide range of Daft Punk, Roni Size, DJ Shadow, Autechre, etc., needed by the President/CEO of a Sports Training Music Website.

Rhythmically, it's more along the lines of Autechre (I had to check out there myspace, I never heard of them) but I noticed some of their stuff is over 10 minutes long  . What do you think is a good length to submit? I know structure is a big part of it and I want to keep dynamics and things moving to keep it from putting someone to sleep

Think 2-3 minutes is safe?

Thanks

Its hard to see how anyone would want 10 minutes... I would think 2-3 should be long enough. Call TAXI, don't take my word for it.

Good Luck!

2 minutes, 3 at the most. With these types of things, chances are they won't use the entire piece anyway, that's just life in the media production world! If you make it "loopable" with nice edit points, then it's likely they could use it for a longer segment if necessary. Make it easy to use and it'll have more of a chance of getting placed. This type of music is easier to do that with given the steadiness of the beats, etc. Just have a couple of transitions where there's no "sweeps" or "swells" that go over the transition so that the downbeat is "clean" and they can cut on it if necessary. Those reversed backwards "sucking" sounds that end right before the downbeat are good things to use, I've found. Of course, it's just the sound that "sucks", not your music!! ;) ;)  8-)

Good luck, go for it!!

When a listing such as this specifies Instrumentals are they calling for something with a distinct melody instrument or are they more or less meaning an underscore or music bed which is basically just removing the vocal from a mix? If anyone has experience with these Instrumental type Film/TV/Licensing submissions would be interested in your take. Thanks
