Mix Feedback Please...

Post by eeoo » Wed Apr 21, 2010 8:05 pm

I need some fresh ears on this one. Would love overall mix impressions and any bright ideas if you got 'em. Kind of a different vibe for me so I'm also wondering if it works as a song, if these sections that are quite different are working together. Thanks alot!

I'm On Your Side

Mornin' sun
beats against the blinds
had your fun
escaped from your mind

don't beat yourself up
you do that way too much
I'm on your side

evening rain
leaks inside your head
you're insane
that's what they always said

but don't listen to them
don't let them 'neath your skin
I'm on your side
don't beat yourself up
you do that way too much
I'm on your side

This is great. Really like the chords and melody throughout. I think the different progressions work. The mix (keep in mind I'm listening thru headphones), I would bring up the vocal in the choruses a little more. My 2 cents of course...

Cool track

Thanks Gents - I just listened again and you nailed it Garrett, vox up in the chorus, maybe even doubled?
Yeah Tom, that's me singing. Glad you enjoyed. I'm not using the greatest mics, that was an older AKG C-3000 but it's going through a UA 710 pre that I really like.

Another fantastic song from you! Everytime I listen to a new song of yours it becomes my new favorite from you, that's so crazy.

I thought this was mixed perfect except for the synthy/organ sound in the beginning and end. After my ears adjusted for the song it seemed ok at the end, but when the song kicks off it seems to "muddle" with your voice a little. Maybe you could notch a little from the vox frequency in that sound (?). Even if it's my bum ears playing tricks on me a notch of a couple db probably couldn't hurt.

A great song Ethan.

Sublime - how are you not a well known artist? Bump the vocal in the chorus and it's done IMO.

Thanks for the listen Fellas - Bill I will try notching out the mellotron, see if I can get the vox to sit more comfortably. I think the vox will come up overall a bit as well.
Scott, Thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate that!
Thanks friends! eo.

Ethan, first off, I had to chuckle at the thread subject......eo needs mix feedback.....I still laugh!
These are your best lyrics to date, as far as what I've heard of yours. Love the percussion choice, fits the bill to a tee. I'd like your vocal to be more upfront is all I can nit.
Very Cool song
Always enjoy your music eo

Very Nice Ethan. I think you have the right advise from the others so I wont be redundant with the feedback of the mix.

But I will say that I really dig the song and you vocals very good. :)
