Socring an indy film - how much to charge?

Post by MikeNile » Wed May 05, 2010 1:56 am

Hey guys,

I'm meeting with a couple investors to discuss my role in scoring an independent movie they plan on making. Honestly I have no clue what the proper charging rate it. I'm really just a music composer and never actually scored a movie before, but they heard my work and liked it so much that they wanted to hire me as the person to score their movie. Any advice?

Respectfully,

Mike A.

I hate to say it but it usually depends on the budget of the film. It can vary widely. We've only done a few and it's ranged from credits only (with backend if the film makes money) to $100/minute. Maybe some of the other members will have more examples.

Thank you guys all for the time in responding. I'm meeting with the investors tomorrow so hopefully things go well... I'm really not all about the money and I would do this for free, but I just wanted to get an idea on how much something like this can go for... and to have some basic knowledge for when I do meet with the investors.

Best regards,

Mike A.
