The Amp Sim thread !!

In the late 70s I had a couple of amps that I never really thought much of, they were stepping stones to better amps. Both were 6X10s. One was a Sunn transistor model, separate closed back cabinet and it would get very loud. The other was an ancient ( at that time ) Peavey Tweed combo, again 6X10 but open backed. Both of these I could push the cheesy speakers too far. Neither amp ever sounded that great to me and both were replaced in time. I can simulate both by loading a variety of models of 10s ( great ones or cheesy ones )in either open or closed back cabinets and then driving them by models of the amps. Actually, I can build up both amps and morph them together for a whole new thing! That's a whole other discussion. I can also do a thing called speaker compensation that really sounds better when I run the whole thing through my real amp live. I don't really like it on recorded tracks but as you turn the master up on a simulated amp it will begin to drive the cab in the same way the real thing did.

I'm not sure if Guitar Rig 3 & 4, Revalver, Pod, what have you, go that far. I haven't messed with them enough to know. I probably should because I am finding that sounding like one's self is not necessarily a good thing in this business. At least thats what seems to be implied by the screeners. Rather, I probably need to sound more like everyone else. So while I am answering Ern's thing, , in an Amp Sim Thread, I'm really more interested in hearing what sims work well for players and how they go about "doin their thang" usin' their sims.
