If there is an actual 4 core hardware processor on the planet right now, I haven't been able to find it. The latest i5 and i7 CPUs are all dual core with a hyper-threading protocol that supposedly divides the cores in half, sort of. If you divide the time it takes to perform a task through software, then it makes some sense that you can multiple the number of tasks that can be accomplished. Its not a true half or doubling thing. I calculate my 2.66GHz i7 dual core can crank out about 3.3GHz. Not anywhere close to double at something approaching 5GHz. Still, they "call" this a "four core" which really just confuses the terminology more than anything else. The Mac Pro of course just adds a second (twin) set of dual core CPUs. This then is either a four core or an eight core depending on what your talking about.
Makes a lot of sense huh? Geeezzz....
