Question about listings

Post by rkat » Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:50 am

Getting ready to finally get around and start working on making some submissions. Is there any way to tell if a listing in wanting ballad or upbeat songs? Like this one for example (just took one of the first ones)

ALT ROCK SONGS in the wide variety of Vampire Weekend, Muse, Kings of Leon, etc. needed by a successful Music Publisher who's had tons of great Film/TV placements for many TAXI members. Universal lyrics are necessary. Capturing the sound and style of this genre with solid hooks, a compelling lyric theme, and distinctive vocal performance is essential. They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed (great home recordings are fine). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Friday, June 18, 2010.

It says "a wide range"... so that seems to take ballads into account. Having said that, if I were sending three songs, I'd make only one a ballad and if I were sending two songs I'd make them both more normal uptempo tracks. Sometimes I'll go to iTunes, do a search on - say - "Kings Of Leon" and listen to the first three or five tracks (they're ranked by popularity. In the case of Kings Of Leon, only one track out of the first five is a ballad type track. I'd always go with the "majority" and "popularity" and it seems that in this case the popularity is weighted pretty heavily towards more uptempo tracks.

FWIW,

Dave
