To submit...or not..

Post by Eric Bolvin » Tue Jun 01, 2010 9:28 am

Hi; So should I submit to a listing like this:
New Listing CONTEMPORARY JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS in the range of Dave Koz, Chris Botti, David Benoit, etc., needed by an Indie Label with major distribution. They would prefer receiving submissions from established artists that are sitting on finished CDs and are in need of distribution, but will also accept songs for possible film and TV placement opportunities. Outstanding performances and solid ensemble playing are a must. No instrumentals please! Broadcast quality needed. This listing was recently run as Dispatch #D100218JZ, so if you submitted to that listing, please send in new songs this time around. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Tuesday, July 6, 2010. TAXI #Y100706JZ
When I did get the forward on the previous listing? No contact from the label as of yet.

Thanks!!~

Oh yes... write and submit away. We tend to think like musicians (what a surprise). Instead we should really think like marketing people. For example, the owner of a good music library will blanket the industry with the music in their library, submitting to all kinds of things with no thought as to whether or not their submissions last week/month/year are or aren't going to pan out. Anyway, the mantra here is...

Write... submit... forget
Write... submit... forget
Write... submit... forget

Pretty soon... DING! Your email (usually when you least expect it) has something that says "Regarding your music submission". Until then... see mantra above. :D

What's up with that listing? Am I the only one who finds it strange that the listing title asks for an instrumental track and then the body of the listing says "'NO INSTRUMENTALS"? I can say for sure I would never submit to a listing that I was guaranteed to have a 50% chance of rejection based on the fact that the listing wasn't clear. Better call Taxi for clarification as to what they are looking for.

Wow! Didn't even notice that. I guess I'm one of those guys that doesn't read the listings..
Well, I decided not to submit, since I have already two forwrads to this company and they have no jazz on the label yet as far as I can tell.
