Rondo Music dobro, incredible value!

I can't believe how good this thing sounds for the money. I've been picking up reso guitar in the major shops around here for a couple years and I'll put this up against anything with 3 times the price tag. The top and back are freakin' gorgeous too. I play finger style, but plan to get my finger pick chops together for that big round cutting dobro sound.

Yeah, it takes a lotta practice to get used to those picks. I haven't got around to it either. Tried several times, seems my attack is too uneven. I got an old Rouge dobro, and modded it with a National 'hot rod' cone. You can get those here http://elderly.com/accessories/cats/MIRS.html.

Gotta love that down home sound of a Dobro. It get's me every time!

Yeah, this sounds great, I love it, both you and Magne make playing the slide sound easy!
I have Rondo's site bookmarked, I've been eying one of the Hofner style bass guitars, this dobro just made the list as well.

BTW: this was recorded with the mighty Gauge ECM 87. I play lap style with the mic laying flat pretty much over the upper bout sound hole; 'bout 4-6" distance. The top of the mic is pointed at the 12th fret such that the body of the mic is at roughly a 45degree angle with the neck.

Thanks for the link to Rob Ickes Mojo, what a great player. I like him better than Jerry Douglas, but I wouldn't kick either of them out of a hootenanny.

Marc, be sure to post up a recording or 2 and a report if you buy the hofner bass. I might give their mandolin a whirl, heck even if it doesn't pan out at $79 dolluhs it wouldn't be the biggest mistake I've made -- it'd even make a nice little canoe paddle.

Try a Sennheiser e609 or MD421 II, or jes' about any ribbon mic with a good pre. (particularly w/fingerpicks)
