I Want You Anyway
Appreciate feedback on this work in progress.
Song is "I Want You Anyway" on my taxi page
http://taxi.com/bradlyon
The style is based on what I think I can almost do (with real instruments) with my resources. I am not doing percussion right now because I know I can't do that yet - certainly not with drum loops.
Impressions on genre? I know I should know this, but I get so dang close to it and can't be sure. I swear I can listen to other folks stuff and it's clear as a bell, but when it comes to my own stuff...
Intro:
It's been so long since I've seen you, girl
Heard you had storms, too
You're a rose that waited on the sun to shine
I'm glad it stopped rainin for you
CHORUS:
and I know I can never have you
I know I can never have you again
But I want you anyway (2x in 2nd and 3rd time of chorus)
You deserve someone to hold you hand
he seems to be what you need
I'm still waitin for that sun to shine
It's takin its time for me
(CHORUS)
BRIDGE:
You are so beautiful
with an angel's glow
And yeah, I've gotta go, too
(CHORUS)

I would say this falls into singer/songwriter. Reminds me of Elliott Smith. Definitely has a haunting element to it. Cool tune.

Re: I Want You Anyway
Sounds very Beatle-ish... singer-songwriter, or maybe if there is a listing for a 60s style.
LOVED it. Very pretty.

Re: I Want You Anyway
thanks folks. This is all very helpful.
slowdance : for my own edification, I am curious which aspects of the production you were going to comment on. I am trying to get better at acoustic mixes like this and appreciate any info. The only eq I had done so far was to eq out all but the upright bass tracks below about 150hz, and I only briefly touched on the volume levels so far. There seems to be some mud left that needs some more of the eq stuff.

Re: I Want You Anyway
Yeah, I think singer/songwriter too. Theme sounds very universal for tv/film. I could hear this in something like "Judging Amy" or "Melrose Place", maybe "Home" as well. I think the dull sounding mix could prove to work well behind dialogue, actually, so I'm not sure this is that off. Many others in here may know more about that, though.
Just had a nice mellow laid back feel, I think. Liked it a lot!

Nice mellow feel. Singer/songwriter category for sure.suggestion I would have is to bring a little sparkle/shine to your mix as it does sound a little flat. Maybe mess around with the EQ a bit to make it a little brighter. Or is the mellow/flat sound reflective of what you're trying to say? If so than never mind....GREAT JOB....lol

Re: I Want You Anyway
I agree with solardaze; it definitely has that Elliot Smith sound. The 2nd mix sounds much better than the first. It is much fuller; you can hear a lot more of of what that guitar sounds like. I can see this being at the ending montage of a TV show...with people staring out at windows on a rainy day or something. I don't think it really needs percussion. I think it's fine the way it is. Great job!
