iPhone 4 and recording

Post by orest » Sat Aug 14, 2010 8:44 am

I'm just waiting for my new iPhone 4 to arrive (will be in about 5 weeks from now).
SO, can you use a USB-sound card to this phone?

How do you use it?

Apps?

I know about that site. But what is the best app there? Sound card?

Not sure what ur trying to do with a sound card. All the apps I know of process sound internally. U have to go in and out through the quarter inch jack. Some use a wi fi network to control midi.

My intention is to use it as a portable recorder, and a real sound card will probably sound much better than what the iPhone has to offer internal.
I know that some people use a mixer and plug it in there, but I was wondering if you can connect USB units as well?

When you say soundcard you must be referring to an audio interface?

Check out this article. Looks like you will be able to do it:

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

I did try google, but it seems that you master it better :)

The Alesis thing seems interesting, but it still lacks midi. I hope I can get a real sound card with audio and midi. That would be really helpful when traveling.

I don't know of anything with MIDI inputs. I know there's some apps that let you create grooves and export audio and MIDI, but I don't know of any interfaces that allow MIDI input. But some more research might turn something up, you never know whats out there!

Good luck!
