Hallo. I am a newbie here. Mr. Stephen Barry.

I just joined the forum. Suzannah Doyle and Tim Fatchen recommended that I join the forum community here, so here I am (you guys do know them right?). Anyway. I'm a month shy of 21 and I enjoy making experimental music and writing poetry. I like nearly all genres of music and try to incorporate several contrasting sounds into one piece to make them flow as one. Right now I'm working on finishing a poetry album that should be done by tomorrow. Hi Stephen....welcome to the boards...I just checked out your tracks and found them to be relaxing and some what hypnotic in a good way. I noticed you use simple percussion and voice pads as a backround bed for your spoken verse and although soothing and pleasant to the ear it tends to feel a little weary and musically begs for rythmic changes from time to time...but that's just an opinion....good luck with album

Welcome to the forums!!! I checked out your myspace and was shockingly surprised. It was odd but not bad, the first deal "overature".

Reasons was interesting and very cool although sometimes a bit odd. I do like what you are doing though... it's cool and with a bit of work might actually go somewhere. After all it's NOT that far from hiphop/rap and I am willing to be a number of people could relate.

February seemed like a cross between soul, hiphop and rap... seemed the closest to me to a more normal sort of song but still unique.. at least it seemed unique to me.

Not you But I... was funny HAHA then later on I got a big sense of seriousness. I liked the transition. Also, I want to say, I am not a BIG fan of rap although growing up I really liked Will Smith and a number of other artists from that era. I liked his/their unique approach even if not my genre of choice normally. I liked your stuff even though it wasn't professional in the "major label" sense. It was professional in a musician/human sense. Very interesting stuff dude. I would like to see where you end up in a few years after doing this steady, learning things and refining your style...

The Black Hole seemed Dark which is VERY cool because it creates what you obviously wanted to express. You really expressed some HEAVY sentiments in a quite interesting way. "Good Year tires and asphalt meet..."... "I get a glimpse of God as I step out on the road"... "resentment in sheets." then the beast taking over etc... dude that was HEAVY and DARK.. WELL DONE!!! imho. I FELT THAT...

Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me here and shout out to Suz Doyle who popped in!

@fret17 I see what you're saying...the weary (or moody) part of the album is the first half, and so far that's all I've been able to get recorded. The second half switches up in a major way rhythm wise and content wise...I'll repost when its all done, and probably have a link here...

@rnrmachine Thanks for your comments and analysis! I think you really picked up on the different things I was trying to convey in each song, and I appreciate that! I definitely want to put some more money into my recording gear and all that so that it can sound much cleaner than it dies right now. Operating on a Samson CO1U USB mic on a 3 year old laptop. Not bad...but with me being the audiophile that I am...quality that isn't perfect bothers me. Also, I am learning about mixing as I'm going...but I think it's going pretty well considering the drawbacks I have in my setup.

I am also not a HUGE fan of rap either, but I love writing and expressing life and emotion through poetry...there's some rap that's like that, but most of it isn't. When it comes to music though I don't discriminate and I hope that shows. The whole point is that people relate to it and respond accordingly, and I think you get that already, and Im only partially done...and still polishing up some of those mixes that are up....thank you again for your comments and the welcome!
