and already has several TAXI composers under his roof

Post by fret17 » Tue Sep 21, 2010 2:16 pm

Hi folks...Every time I read in a listing .... "already has several TAXI composers under his roof"...or "TONS of taxi composers" etc..I can't help wondering why the listing party doesn't go back and use the tons of composers they already worked with from taxi???...what's up with that?

They DO use the composers they already have relationships with. The two most common reasons why they'd be looking for additional composers is that they want to expand into stylistic areas that the existing composers are not experts at, or they want to grow their catalog at a greater rate than what the existing composers can supply.

Who said they weren't? ;) It's possible that they're looking for new composers because they have an increase in requests from their clients and that's they only way they can facilitate the rise in demand. It could also be that they need to fill a specific genre or style that their current group isn't able to do.

ROFL, reasonable question and MAYBE he has but they didn't cough up what is needed OR do not work in that genre so he waits, posts listings in hopes that one of us nOObs has come up with DA BOMB he is looking for. OR maybe it's the Taxi cash cow in action... I am leaning heavily towards the former over the latter ROFL.

Seriously though... how many Taxi members do you think are BQ in one area and not so BQ in another... let alone, not every song that people write is good, let alone (OMG did I say let alone AGAIN?) what they are looking for. Especially if looking for a specific song for a specific client... /rob get his best highlander voice going and cries out, "THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!"

Sorry couldn't resist the bit of humor, disclaimer, I have not slept for about 36 hours and I am officially "mentally impaired" haha... going to make/eat dinner then drop into a food coma.

Rob

EDIT... wow Matto and BBB... we must all be drinking the same kool-aid

Ditto for me... though I'm drinking a nice cold Diet Mountain Dew Code Red, which kinda looks like kool-aid :-)

I'm close to signing my very first Taxi Kool-Aid induced deal. Bring me another pitcher!

ROFL, Casey, BBB and Bryan you guys are FUNNY!!

I know I will get my first Taxi generated deal eventually. In the near future I will have submitted the one that does it. I have no doubts about it. It's not that I think I am great or anything. I just know I am doing the right things to find, at the least, moderate success.

and Matto, not that I think you took me wrong but just in case... I meant NOTHING ill about the kool-aid comment. I did take it from some people claiming that people are drinking the "Taxi koolaid" and blindly defending Taxi. It just popped into my head as I thought... it's obvious to me we're being logical if we all came to the same conclusion without reading each others post.. mine is obviously more of an educated guess as I am just another, no Taxi deal signed member, as of yet. Where you are much more successful at this with Taxi. In other words... I was just attempting humor with no ill intent. :)

I too am one of the composers under the roof and I know this client is trying to build a base of composer that can cover a wide range of styles. For instance, I have done "urban" music when the deadline demanded it and there was no one else available, but I wouldn't say it's in my "wheelhouse". There's plenty of others out there that can rock the urban stuff while I'm busy writing to my strengths.

As for drinking the TAXI kool aid, I'm sure I'm one of the ones talked about in the dark alleys of the internet as having lost all my teeth behind drinking so much of it, but I'm living proof that it works and I have the cue sheets and ASCAP statements to back it up.

Glass houses and stones don't mix too well, as they say.
