Rally: For more than songwriters?

Post by phoenixmurphy » Wed Sep 29, 2010 7:05 pm

Hello all,
This is my first post so, "Hi my name is Phoenix, and I'm a new TAXI member!"

My question is actually about my girlfriend, whom I am considering bringing to the Road Rally with me. She is an actor/singer/dancer, and has begun to dabble in songwriting though it is not her forte. Would she benefit from the Road Rally?

Obviously I am going to the Rally to learn, grow, and meet new people, not just to hang out with my girlfriend (though I haven't seen her in a few months). Will it be beneficial to have someone I know as support, or would I take more away from it going alone?

Thanks in advance, and looking forward to seeing you all there! --Even if you don't want to answer my questions, say hi or something! :)

Hi Phoenix, I say bring her along. If she is in the entertainment industry, especially as a singer, she can do some good networking. She'll meet a lot of songwriters, and some of them might be interested in hiring her as a vocalist for their demos. She should bring some CDs of her singing work to give out when this topic comes up. There are usually a couple singing/vocalist/performance technique classes she might find interesting. Check out the rally schedule so far at http://taxi.com/rally (look under the ballroom panels section) and see if there are more things that might appeal to her. If she is interested in songwriting but hasn't done much yet, there are tons of classes for all levels of writers.

On the other hand, it's great to go solo to the rally because it forces you to interact with people and maximize your networking opportunities. If she comes, don't be afraid of splitting up your schedules so that you can see the classes that will be most beneficial to each of you. You can meet up for lunch, happy hour, open mic, etc.

See you there!

PS welcome to the forum :D you might want to introduce yourself in the general hangout so everyone can meet you!

Hell ya she can benefit... the people you meet might not only be involved in music alone... the fact she is a singer too... then she is a "performer" and that fits right into Taxi's forte.

I would say that she should come for sure!! You should consider going to different classes and the sharing notes afterward. This way you double your efforts. I can guarantee she will get a lot out of it.
