I finally found out what MTV show my song was used on...

Post by rnrmachine » Fri Oct 01, 2010 11:11 am

Howdy folks and Taxi,

I am sure a few of you know about my one song being used on MTV... and I gave Taxi indirect credit for the minor success because of the critique help. I finally got the statement from BMI and the check of course, for that song. The song was used on "Real World Road Rules Challange." episode 10... in the first quarter of this year (2010) I got a check for that song alone for that quarter for $78.51. I expected it to be like $5-$10. HAHA So I was pleasently suprised and wishing I wasn't such a skeptic all the time. That was the only song I submitted to this other company on that specific listing because I didn't trust them too much. Had I submitted a lot more songs I am sure at least a few of them would have been used. I have a bunch of songs that are easily that caliber and better so it's my own dang fault it's not a MUCH bigger check.

I submitted that song just about 2 years ago and I credit Taxi with helping me to improve via the critiques... anyway... so whether it is directly or indirectly... Taxi works... and I wouldn't blow smoke up someones a++ if I thought Taxi wasn't what they say it is. I would be telling people my honest opinion, good bad, or indifferent!!! I would think you guys know that about me by now.

BTW it was a 25 second clip... they spliced off the ending and pasted it halfway into the first verse... which worked but suprised me... I wouldn't have thought it would have worked. hehe

Anyway, Thank You Taxi.. you probably do not hear that as much as you should, with all the whiners that pass through.

Great news, Rob! Congrats!

That MTV show's name would be a good name for a Taxi topic/seminar: "Real World Road Rules Challenge."

Great news! Congrats!

You will notice that MTV is very good for replaying their shows. Especially the Road Rules/Real World ones.

Thank You everyone,

I know it isn't a lot compared to the success a number of you have experienced but for me it is a big deal... Like when a business hangs their first $1 on the wall sort of thing. So for that, I am so happy to feel like I can actually make this happen and I am not just a self deluded dreamer.

I would like to add in, I had mentioned in a different thread, that I received another critique (the last time I had submitted it) on this song back from Taxi saying it wasn't BQ. On the show, my song did sound good, but there was a number of other clips that sounded better, in the hardrock/metal category. So I am sure that that is what the person giving that specific critique was talking about when they said not BQ. So if Taxi likes to keep up it's reputation and tells the screeners "top notch only" then I completely understand why my song wasn't BQ to that screeners standards... plus, I compared my stuff to the wrong music as well. Outdated music no matter how popular it was, shouldn't be your "mix comparison" music.

Also, that song had guitars DI with GTRrig2 back then. It sounds a TON better since I swapped out to GTRig4 and re-mixed it. I believe it is up to Taxi standards now so when a listing pops up that I think it fits in. I will submit it!!

Again, thank you Taxi for supplying us with feedback (critiques). This is a direct result of being a Taxi member. I would say imho, but I would count this as fact more so, then opinion because the fact is had I not joined Taxi and learned what I learned from the feedback... who knows where I would have learned it other then going to back to school. /shrug .. and not really interested in going back to school.. I spent enough of my life behind the brick walls of learning. I want only real world experience now!!
