New demo "She's My Country Road" (BMI)

Jim and Jay cut "She's In Love With The Rodeo" for me and did an awesome job. The WPRA (Woman's Professional Rodeo Association) contacted me about using the song for promotion. I have a meeting set up with them next week. Jim and Jay booked some outstanding pickers and found an incredible singer with the perfect voice for the song to cut the vocals. I couldn't be happier.

Hi Jay. Really cool and memorable song. The playing is great. I enjoyed the "Thunderstruck" licks under the bridge. The extended ending is fun but I'd suggest cutting it at 2.47. Cheers, Doug

Good song Jay!

The strongest aspect for me is the production, sounds excellent all around. The only thing I'd say is that if it's intended as a song demo to pitch to artists for a possible cut, I would've mixed the lead vocal slightly hotter to really present the lyric and melody on a "silver platter" so to speak. On the other hand the mix would be great for tv/film placements.

Musically the song works very well for me although it strikes me as slighly "safe", I'm especially missing a huge signature chorus that would move this song a lot further toward a possible cut. It's catchy but just a tad "by the numbers".

For me, the weakest aspect of this song is the lyric, although it's still quite good. What I find with songs that are built on a concept that's a bit of a stretch, like "She's My Country Road", is that really every single line has to contribute toward selling that concept in order for it to come across as natural and believable. This "singlemindedness" is lacking for me here. You have some great lines that do support your concept, but you also have quite a few that don't really sell the concept and to me come across as "filler". The result is that the song seems a bit contrived, or a let down, as if you picked a really ambitious concept but can't quite deliver on it.

IMHO this is going to be this song's biggest challange vis a vis getting cut. However I do think that it could fit into any number of TV or movie scenes of someone driving on the open road thru the heartland.
