Return on Rock Instl. Y101112RK...

Post by gio » Tue Dec 14, 2010 6:50 pm

I got a return on this one and would like your opinions. Considering the referenced songs, Gonna Fly Now and Eye of the Tiger, I felt my song was a pretty good fit. I have a couple other songs that are a little heavier but I wanted to stick to the referenced material. Anyway, man, still can't crack this return streak... It was a Y/N, and the music box was checked off. Thanks guys...

Track name: Showdown

Here's the listing...
Y101112RK

UPBEAT, INSPIRATIONAL, DRIVING ROCK SONGS and INSTRUMENTALS a la Gonna Fly Now (Theme to Rocky), Survivor's Eye of the Tiger and Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll (Part 2) needed by top flight Film/TV Publisher servicing a variety of high-end trailers, games, television and film projects. Music must pack a punch with super-charged, propulsive rhythms and rousing, anthem-style melodies that stir the testosterone. If you are including vocals (MALE ONLY), make sure they're commanding and powerful and your words are applicable to physical competition without being specifically about a particular sport. Music can be contemporary or hark back to pre-hair-gel days of the artists noted so long as production is broadcast quality and energy is infectious. Synths are OK so long as they deliver the goods without sounding cheesy (reference artists notwithstanding). Bottom line: your music should encourage people to get up off their butts and kick some ass. All music must be original, NO COVERS. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than Friday, November 12, 2010. TAXI #Y101112RK

Your song sounded pretty spot on for what they were looking for. I submitted to this one too, and I would say your song was more what they were asking for than mine was. As a guitarist, the only thing I noticed was that the guitars sounded more distorted than what they were looking for - like maybe you used a Boss Metal Zone pedal and they were looking for more of a Boss DS-1 or Super Overdrive sound. Not totally sure about that though, as I haven't listened to those songs for a while.
I thought the orchestral sounds added a nice touch too.

wow......loved the song, you got a lot of talent.
i can't believe you got a return. I suppose at the end of the day it has to be exactly what they are looking for.
all the best on the next one.

Thanks Steve. I'm glad you enjoyed it, 'means alot.
Yeah I'm still trying to get a better grasp of reading the listings...

It's funny because I made my cousin, who used to DJ, listen to the track, just for fun. I didn't mention anything about Taxi, or submitting, or pitching it or anything. And his reaction was that it sounds like it belongs in a Rocky movie. That's what I was aiming for... So since two of the referenced songs were from Rocky, I thought I had a shot... I dunno...

Thanks Biz... I know what you mean about the distortion. I thought about that too, but felt I was safe with a slightly heavier tone because the listing said it could be contemporary. I appreciate the feedback, and thanks a lot for the listen.
