Re: Screener #309, why are you rejecting my hip hop?
Well I got a response from the head screener. While I don't agree with every little thing the head screener said, I do agree with much of it. It was also nice to hear that screener #309 is a legit industry person. The head screener and a couple others gave my songs a listen, and gave me some in depth info on why they thought the songs were probably rejected.
The head screener also promised to look into the quality of the way the boxes were being checked by screener #309.
I can't ask for much more than that. I knew that there was no way they were going to actually forward my songs after they had been rejected by another screener because of the horrible precedent that would set. But I am happy that they took the time to listen to my woes. I did preface my letter by telling them my great track record with Taxi and how I by and large took most of my returns in stride, and that this was the first time I was reaching out with a concern. I don't think this is the type of thing you can do often.
But I'm more or less happy with the way everything turned out.

Oh I am quite confident screener 309 knows something. Micheal don't strike me as a moron, I HIGHLY doubt he would hire just some schmo to screen. Btw, I did say slacker... not unqualified. You can be extremely qualified and still slack... I can easily picture in my head him/her thinking to himself/herself... crap I have to listen to those damn Taxi submissions by tomorrow. OH well listen to a few seconds if they aren't amazing... return em all... click, click, click, ah well, that's done. Didn't have to type one word. mwahahaha
I know if I was a screener I would be tempted to do it from time to time. Although I wouldn't... I was a steel worker. Local 7038... and my co workers use to tell me... slow down dude. HAHA As a matter of fact, every job I ever worked at except one... I was asked by other employees to slow down. Did I? Hell NO!! I was there to work.. not wallow around in self pity because I had to work and didn't win the lottery again that week. American workers may have been the best in the world at one time. But now, they're not... simple as that.
When rules or procedures change, employers need employees to change with them or they can find a new job. Not filling out the paper work.. especially when we are talking such a simple task... one sentence as to why... is that SUCH a difficult task? Also, it's about what we're told will happen. Not receiving what you are told you will get is extremely disappointing. My poor niece is told by her Dad.. time and time again... I'll do this for ya... tomorrow... does he show up? Does he stick to his word? NOPE Definition of a jerk... imho. IF you don't want to do something... fine, just don't tell people that it will happen.. but then, you don't deliver. What's that crap? There is no excuse... there might be a reason but most of the time... it's a reason, but not an excuse.
I agree it's understandable that a certain amount of errors will be made. It's human nature... so if this is abnormal for this screener then no big deal and Taxi more then made up for it by double checking it. So kudos to Taxi for stepping up when one of their employees did not... no matter what their credentials.

I'm still not sure slacker is appropriate here....could be, 309 is just the type of industry pro that's used to just saying no on things and that's enough...I don't think he has to check why ....if you've ever submitted to places in the "Song writer's market book"...that were open to submissions...you don't get any details as to why they said no....You don't even know if it was listened to by a qualified person and not some producer's aunt tilly....and I don't think it's manditory to have to check boxes...I could be wrong...but still it won't change things or give as clear a picture as posting it all to us or getting a $20.00 critique....we all have to try and remember we are all human beings with work loads and dead lines etc...and accidents can happen as well as ...going straight to the point...like ...No..rnrmachine wrote:Oh I am quite confident screener 309 knows something. Re: Screener #309, why are you rejecting my hip hop?
You are missing the point... it's NOT about what other places would do or not do, it's about what Taxi says they WILL do. And this screener isn't doing what Taxi says their screeners will do. It's doesn't get anymore black and white that this return was not handled properly. According to Taxi standards. Taxi changed their Y/N listing to include a SHORT reason why the song wasn't forwarded. This screener refuses?... or just gets away with?... failure to include why AND he rarely forwards.?. stuff that other screeners do forward.?.. If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck... paper dumping (song dumping) comes to my mind immediately.fret17 wrote:I'm still not sure slacker is appropriate here....could be, 309 is just the type of industry pro that's used to just saying no on things and that's enough...I don't think he has to check why ....if you've ever submitted to places in the "Song writer's market book"...that were open to submissions...you don't get any details as to why they said no....You don't even know if it was listened to by a qualified person and not some producer's aunt tilly....and I don't think it's manditory to have to check boxes...I could be wrong...but still it won't change things or give as clear a picture as posting it all to us or getting a $20.00 critique....we all have to try and remember we are all human beings with work loads and dead lines etc...and accidents can happen as well as ...going straight to the point...like ...No..rnrmachine wrote:Oh I am quite confident screener 309 knows something. I do agree, if he was screening for some other company that doesn't tell you they will reply... then by all means don't reply. Screener #309 wouldn't need to then, would he? But he isn't working for another company... he is working for Taxi and Taxi does things differently. So imho... slacker. If he is an "Old School" person it still don't change the fact he is slacking... might be a reason but it is NO excuse.
Also, no where does it read, that I could find, that it's at the screeners discretion to put "why" in the Y/N listings. I read a post where Mazz said it had been put to a vote and adding a short reason to the Y/N listings won. So from that day forward the screeners had to now add in why... it's not rocket science.
I am not going to continue to argue this... if you don't see it then we're just not going to agree and that is fine. You can think he is doing his job just fine and I can think he is a slacker on his duties as a Taxi screener... no big deal. Luckily I don't do hip hop/rap... so it doesn't affect me. Hopefully it will stay that way and I will get to continue to work with screeners with a bit more of a work ethic and company loyalty. God knows and so does Taxi... I sent a "thank you screeners" Email some time back... most of the screeners that have checked out my stuff I have been VERY pleased with!!! There has only been a few critiques that I found quite poor in a much larger number of quality advice.

Again, Thank you screeners for all the help.

Rob
EDIT: I wanted to quick add in, I am going by what is told and shown to me.. I have NO experience with this screener what so ever. I can not and will not validate that this is true about this screener. I am trusting that the information and the copied critique is true information... it's with that info that I base my opinion.

Speaking of that, has anyone ever got a forward from 309?

Rob....I'm not arguing either...just trying to give 309 the benifit of the doubt....but if his history with returns and noncompliance with taxi screener policy is really not what's expected by Tax terms...Then I would agree "Slacker" seems to fit....hopefully we will get some insight as to what's up with 309...but personally...I think the boxes don't help...Yes or No pretty much says it all for me....

Re: Screener #309, why are you rejecting my hip hop?
Yes. Several people got forwards on that November listing, including a dude who posted in the 'forwards' section of the forum. It's not that #309 denies everybody. I guess I thought my stuff was good enough and it apparently wasn't. I wanted to make sure #309 wasn't just denying randomly, and make sure that he checked the boxes that he should. The screener said #309 was very knowledgeable and gave me reasons my tracks weren't forwarded. He didn't really address the fact that boxes were being mis checked, but I think he is going to make sure #309 IS doing what he should. So I'm as satisfied as I can be I guess. #309 may be 'slacking' a little, but it doesn't change my returns into forwards necessarily. Hopefully they get #309 to be a little bit more thorough.Eric Bolvin wrote:Speaking of that, has anyone ever got a forward from 309?

I have gotten a couple that made me giggle, showed the screener had a sense of humor. hehe So I like them if for that alone.fret17 wrote:Rob....I'm not arguing either...just trying to give 309 the benifit of the doubt....but if his history with returns and noncompliance with taxi screener policy is really not what's expected by Tax terms...Then I would agree "Slacker" seems to fit....hopefully we will get some insight as to what's up with 309...but personally...I think the boxes don't help...Yes or No pretty much says it all for me....

The short statement they made about the song I am referring to, not the check box.
