Another confusing return

Post by DonaldM » Fri Feb 11, 2011 6:26 am

I just got a return on a submission to this listing: [q]FEMALE "POPERA"/AC SONGS are needed immediately by a Fantastic Los Angeles-based Producer working with an extremely talented female artist with a great presence and vocal style. They're currently in the studio and are still looking for great songs along the lines of Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church, Hayley Westenra, etc. The songs of Josh Groban are referenced, particularly for the "pop" element they're looking for, so think in terms of memorable, powerful, even radio-friendly, hooks! We'll only be able to forward a handful, so please send your very best material! Only female vocals for this listing, please. We recently ran this as Dispatch listing #D101227AC, so if you submitted to this listing, please send in new material this time around. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI[/q]

A while back, I had a custom critique done on this song and the reviewer said "You nailed the genre above, Donald. It AC (Adult Contemporary, but Classical Crossover are the charts that Groban's "You Raise Me Up" was on. "

So, because the listing specifically mentions Groban and because the custom critique mentions Groban and said I "nailed the genre", naturally, I submitted the same song to the listing. Then the song is returned and "stylistically off target" is checked. What the...? They also checked "music" and "lyrics"...okay fine if the lyrics aren't right...but it is confusing to know if you're on target when one reviewer tells you a song nails the genre, then you submit that song to a listing specifically looking for that genre, and then are told its stylistically off target. Its either on genre or it isn't. Like most everyone here, I am trying very hard to make sure all my submissions are at least close to the genre being sought. Its tough to do that when you get seemingly opposite information on the same song.

In this case, the song is "It Only Takes A Second - short intro" on my page http://www.taxi.com/DonaldM
