Instrumentals ok for 'vocals accepted'?

Post by davedwards » Fri Feb 04, 2011 12:12 pm

I was about to submit some music for listing D110208CH which asks for Christmas songs for a documentary. It says "male or female vocals accepted." I'm reading that to mean that vocals are optional, and my instrumental pieces will be appropriate. Anybody have any thoughts on that?

No, you are reading it incorrectly. When instrumentals are OK the listing will call for "SONGS AND INSTRUMENTALS", not just SONGS... They want songs with vocals and are just saying that either male of female vocals are OK.

I don't have the listing text in front of me BTW, but if the word "instrumentals" doesn't appear, they want songs with vocal.

Yup, Casey is right, here is the text for the listing:

ORIGINAL and PUBLIC DOMAIN CHRISTMAS SONGS needed immediately by a HOT MUSIC SUPERVISOR working on an independent DOCUMENTARY that chronicles the "culture and character" of an everyday man suiting up as SANTA for the holiday season. Genre and tempos are open - contemporary or traditional - but submissions must encapsulate the TRUE SPIRIT of CHRISTMAS! Quoting the music supervisor, "Tracks selected will receive minimal upfront monies, but with the potential for increases at specific levels of distribution. This is a budget-conscious project." BROADCAST QUALITY is necessary (excellent home recordings are fine). Male or Female vocals accepted.

Definitely doesn't say anything about instrumentals being accepted, maybe the next Christmas listing :D

Thanks for the input. I'll save my submission fee for something else. :)

Unless it says "instrumentals" in the listing, which I did not see, the word SONG refers to music & lyrics with someone singing.

I agree.... save the $5 for a different listing.
