First deal - 11 songs singed!

Post by rpittelman » Mon Sep 06, 2010 9:36 pm

Hi all

I'm halfway through my third year as a taxi member. I finally got my first deal a few months ago. I had 11 pieces of mine picked up by a library. Now its time to wait for some placements!

I did like the way that one of the pieces that was signed by the library was a piece that Taxi rejected from the listing that got me this deal.

Hi rpittelman,

Congratulations on the deal. I'm curious to know what the screener said was the reason he/she couldn't forward the piece that ultimately got picked up by the library. As you may have seen elsewhere on the forum, it's not unusual to have a track that doesn't fit what our client's brief has asked for relative to that listing, but ultimately gets picked up as sort of a general addition. Please quote the screener. I like to make sure my people are doing their jobs well ;)

By the way... it sounds like your first deal came approx. 27 months into your membership. Not unusual at all. I always tell people that the first year or two for many members is part of the learning curve. Those who stick it out and don't give up are almost always the members who are building the foundation for a long term career.

Congrats again,
Michael

Hi Michael!

Just checked my submission history, there were actually 3 different dispatch listings for this same library
D100405IN
D100406IN
D100402IN
I submitted a total of 4 different pieces to these listings (unfortunately for me I had 2 different pieces forwarded twice). Since it was a dispatch listing there isn't anything to quote from the listener. The recording box was checked on the return but as I mentioned the peice was singed by the library anyway. Oddly enough one of the pieces that was forwarded in that same submission was passed on by the library.

As far as the time line, I was actually contacted by this library just a few days before I called to renew my membership for my 3rd year. Oddly enough I was contacted by the library before I got my listing results back. Of course I wasn't surprised to find that forward in my email :)

Thanks,
Robbie

Excellent job! It seems years 3 and beyond are the magic number for things beginning to take off. Given that it takes an average of 5 years to create a typical successful business, three years is well on the way to a solid career in music. BRAVO!
