3 out of 4 songs forwarded, but realized something funny

Post by davidman » Sun Mar 06, 2011 8:27 pm

Hooray! I got 3 of 4 songs forwarded for this listing. Manoah Drive, Parisian Passages and Right By Your Side were all forwarded, but Arise was not.

Y110218JZ
ORIGINAL JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS (In all styles) needed by a Music Library/Publisher for Film & TV licensing. Open to all tempos. No MIDI tracks, unless they sound absolutely realistic. Instrumental presentation must be top notch and sound authentic to the genre! Instrumentals must be broadcast quality (great sounding home recordings are OK). We recently ran this as Dispatch listing #D101209JZ, so if you submitted music to this listing, please send in new material this time around. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Friday, February 18, 2011. TAXI #Y110218JZ

The funny thing is that there was a previous listing (below) that Arise got forwarded to, but the same other songs were rejected from that listing. As it turns out, both listings were for the same film/television production company.

I am very new to all this, having only been a member since Nov., but does anyone know why would the same songs be accepted for one listing and rejected for another listing when both listings were for the same company? And, once the company for the listing already has my song, then shouldn't I be given enough info. in the listing so that I don't resubmit a song that has already been forwarded.

Just looking for some information.

Thanks,
David

(older listing) Y110117JZ
ORIGINAL JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS in the wide range of Pat Metheny to Brad Mehldau and Wayne Shorter to John McLaughlin, etc., needed by a Music Library/Publisher for Film/TV placements and licensing. Open to all tempos. No Smooth Jazz. No MIDI tracks unless they sound absolutely realistic. Compositions and arrangements must be solid. For film & TV, evoking an atmosphere or mood is a big plus. Instrumental performances must be top notch and ensemble performances tight! Broadcast quality needed (excellent sounding home recordings are OK). We recently ran this as Dispatch listing #D101209JZ, so if you submitted to that listing, send in new material this time around. Please submit one to three instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, January 17, 2011. TAXI #Y110117JZ

Thanks Darin! I listened to some of your tunes, they are really nice, great lyrics...and a really nice feel to the songs, a mix of country, contemporary Christian and gospel! It's an honor for me to meet a fellow brother in the faith using God's gift to His glory! I wish you many blessings!

God Bless You!
David

David--ALL of your songs are good! It's possible that two different screeners were listening to the different submissions. and each was impressed by a different aspect.

The listings never say who, exactly, is looking for your music. and some companies definitely post several different listings over time. I've had one song forwarded to the same company THREE times, now--unless they very explicitly say, "Already listed as XXX, send in new material," there's no way to tell from the listing that it's a repeat and that you should send them new stuff.

Hi Davidman, congrats on the forwards!

I agree with ejgoo that to start with, it was probably two different screeners. You can see the screener number at the bottom of the review.

I listened to Arise and Manoah Drive - they both sound great!

Congrats! Since all of the tracks have been forwarded for one listing or the other to that party, it's all good! 8-) :D

It just shows than screeners are human and different screeners or even the same screener on a different day can have a different opinion on the forward/return decision. I imagine that there will be always tracks that are on the cusp of whether they are go/no-go for a listing and your mileage may vary ;) ... A track being on that 'cusp' doesn't mean it's a bad piece of music at all, BTW. Lots of great music gets returned if it's not a good fit for the listing in that screener's opinion.

Best of luck! I hope you get 'the call'!!!

:) Casey

Thanks everyone for the information and kind words!

svandewater, nice to see someone else from my neck of the woods on here! I'm not too far away, a hop, skip and a jump from I295 away from Attleboro. Massachusetts is in da house 8-)

Congratulations on the forwards, David. I had a similar weirdness this week. My song "Blues for Breakfast" was forwarded on a jazz listing, but returned on a blues listing as being "off-target" ????? Can't complain. At least it was forwarded.
