Return for Hot A/C

Post by brandonamatias » Wed Apr 06, 2011 3:38 pm

Hey everyone,

Want to get your thoughts and opinions on a return for the following listing

CURRENT, HOOK-LADEN ADULT CONTEMPORARY SONGS with VOCALS a la Train, Daughtry, and Kelly Clarkson ("Already Gone") sought by A-list Film/TV/Ad Publisher supplying top TV series and films. Well-defined, straight-forward, original melodies are a must, with powerful, emotive hooks that clobber. Mood and tempo can vary but keep it earnest and heartfelt MALE/FEMALE vocals should display a firm command of phrasing and pitch. Aim for universal themes that revolve around emotional introspection: heartache, loss, love, resilience, self-discovery. Arrangements should have plenty of dynamics (such as soaring choruses, intimate breakdowns, etc.).

Song is "Time Lost Loving You" on my page http://www.taxi.com/brandonamatias

Music box was checked. Thanks everyone for listening.

Brandon

Hey, Brandon

I'm not as qualified as some (as anyone, actually) to comment on the finer points of music production, but to my ears this sounds absolutely spot on. I've heard some of your other stuff when you've posted it on the P2P page, and I have to say you are a consumate songwriter with a great voice and a great sensibility for a well-rounded song. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Most of what I hear every day is inferior to this, and however modest a man you are Brandon, I bet you think that too. There's something inherently debilitating about posting a song for such a specific requirement and getting it passed back to you – if it's not exactly what they want, I guess there's a tendency to think there must be something wrong with it. There isn't, man, it's just that today was chocolate day and you had strawberry. I'm sure you have bags of experience of both forwards and returns (I have none – I posted my first piece after joining today), but this song is beautiful, heartfelt and lovely. Congratulations. Keep it up (like, what else would you do? lol).

Nick

Brandon,

I think it's a great tune. Sometimes it's pretty hard to tell what they are looking for, alas or not. I remember submitting to a listing for a song ala Diana Krall or Sheryl Crow and I tried to figure out what these two wonderful ladies had in common other than they were both great artists. My only suggestion for your song "Time Lost Loving You" is that IMHO it could have used more white space, more quiet emotion. I really liked it at around 3:03 when you went to just acoustic guitar and lead vocals, but it only happened for about four bars and then the electric guitars, bass, drums, et al were back in. I think if you played an entire verse, or verse and chorus, or even verse chorus verse that way it might have showcased the song more. Sometimes the loudest shout is a whisper.

Hope this helps,

Howlin'

Thank you so much Don and Nick for first off taking time to listen and then give your feedback. I will say that I was bummed when I got returned on this one because I felt it was right, but it just wasn't what they were looking for. And that's ok! One thing I have learned is to just keep writing. I am sure there will be a home for it somewhere in the future. The next song is always your best song :)

Thanks again guys!
