What are your favorite rhymes?
This is sort of a takeoff of Mojo's "first line" thread. What are some of your favorite rhymes? You know, the really clever ones that you wish you'd have thought of.
Here are three I very much admire:
Don't be offended by my frank analysis
Think of it as personality dialysis
- Stephen Schwartz (Wicked)
or, another from Wicked:
And since folks here, to an absurd degree,
Seem fixated on your verdigris
and, finally, what Jack's mother (of Jack and the Beanstalk fame) told him before making him take his cow to market:
Son, we cannot dither
While her withers wither with her.
- Stephen Sondhiem (Into the Woods)

Re: What are your favorite rhymes?
One of my faves is Kid Ory's 1926 classic "Muskrat Ramble":
I look at them shuffle and the shuffle come down
Ramblin' and scramblin' and a-headin' for town
Hoppin' and boppin' and a-buzzin' around
Happily awaitin' at the station
I look at that train number 709
Hoppin' and boppin' and arrivin' on time
Who do you think is about to arrive
The band they call the Dixieland Five
I just looove that one!
One of my own writes in a similar style:
(c) 2011 Magne Kolstad
Im gonna start stoppin’
Quit workin’ for nothin’
Gotta let you earn my love
Im gonna stop pleasin’
You ain’t appreciatin’ the teasin’
An’ now Im about to’ve had enough
Gotta start stoppin’
Throwin’ away my love

Re: What are your favorite rhymes?
Some favorites from my own songs (OK, a little shameless self-promotion... someone's gotta do it
)...
My memory of you is so one dimensional
I kept it that way
Very intentional
A thumbnail blows the whole perspective
Very small
But so effective
............................ So Close To Me
The queen of the gym
So statuesque
Her dark skin shines
As she works in to a sweat
............................ Physical World
The magazines
Are where my lonely search begins
They advertise
Using clever acronyms
............................ Painfully Single

Re: What are your favorite rhymes?
this one can't leave my brain...
i know how to be controlled
do opposites of what you're told
be quick, react, to break the box
turn on queue, as your cell door locks
I know how to be lost in lust
not because you should, but because you must
it burns white hot, and so clouds the mind
its lightning strike isn't always kind
(Them Crooked Vultures)

Re: What are your favorite rhymes?
I've adopted Casey's approach and chosen some of mine!!!
(This one’s about playing music you don’t like to people who aren’t listening)
A Little Light Entertainment
Sometimes I feel that I’m losing the way
If lost is the word that describes yesterday
(Undeclared love)
In My Dreams
I fall in to your loving arms
You soothe me with your many charms
(Alcoholism)
Dreams In To A Nightmare
I have just sold my watch my house my car
They stood between me and this old bar
These are the opening lines of each of the songs.

Now the first of December was covered with snow
And so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston
Though the Berkshires seemed dream-like on account of that frosting.... --- James Taylor
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye
And it looks like it's climbing clear up to the sky --- Oscar Hammerstein
More later,
Ern

Lyle Lovett
From the "Joshua Judges Ruth" album.
My all time favorite rhyme and one of my top favorite albums of all time as well.

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Love that uncommon rhyme, and Joshua Judges Ruth is one of the greatest albums ever.

"Gelignite, with a laserbeam" would also work, but why question genius?
