Opinions... YMMV

Screener 315 (Custom):
The melody is well differentiated from section to section. The chorus melody lifts nicely from the note range established in the verses. (Scored 9 on sectional contrast)

Screener 299:
The song develops well lyrically, however, I felt the melodic content needed to be strengthened a bit. There wasn't enough melodic lift or distinction between sections.

On this one, I'm very confident in my sectional contrast and agree with screener 315... Nah, I'm not biased at all... :P

Always get lots of qualified opinions and look for patterns...

Hi Casey!

Great song, as usual.

The thing I heard, was that there was a melodic distinction but maybe the instrumentation could have changed a little, piano, keys or something extra on the chorus.

Just a thought.

Hi Casey - I think it's a toss up. I hear enough sectional contrast for my own taste, so I'm with 315, but I can see how 299 might have wanted a little more range. Maybe in the bridge, which melodically kind of sits where the verses are, you could take it up a third or so higher than the tessitura of the chorus.

But it works as is, for me! I like this song a lot!!!
