Great album, I rated it on itunes for you and I tweeted the link :) Take care!
Thanks Michelle. I've been busy and just got back to this link.
I just listened to your CD. Excellent. Reminded me of Amy Grant meets Tish Hinojosa.
I rated you 5stars and left a good review. I'm not sure how long it takes the reviews to get processed by iTunes.
I shared your link on facebook too.

Thanks so much.. Just left a review for you guys too! Take care

How do you get your music on ITunes???....And do you actually make money out of it???...I KNOW that is the future, but I still haven't taken the BIG step into the 'digital download world'....except a few songs on CD Baby, Soundclick etc.

We used reverbnation for distribution to get our CD on iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody and about 30 other stores .. it's easy and cheap .. $35 usd per year. There are many others companies that do a similar service .. distribution .. CDBaby, tunecore, etc, etc.

We've sold a few downloads so far .. only been on iTunes a few months .. but we haven't put on a bit promotional campaign .. that's the key .. that and having great music.

AH! Thanks Dean! ReverbNation is one of the few I haven't 'investigated' yet. Sounds like they are doing kind of the same as CDBaby, only to other distributores/web-sites. Guess I should have a look at that, when I get time. I am very (maybe too?) careful when it comes to digital distribution, one reason being that some of the agreements you sign for it may prevent you from also getting the same music in a music library or other publisher.

When I ask about money it's simply because I still haven't heard about anyone (independant) actually making any (or much) money on it yet.....and I would SO love to hear a success story about that. I know it takes time, (and marketing/great music), so hopefully in a year or so you can tell us a GREAT one!!! 8-) :D

Best wishes and TONS of downloads your way! :D

Ulla, there IS the success story about Ingrid Michaelson who's track were in a movie (or was it a show?), and the day after the was aired she sold 60.000 downloads of that song on CD Baby. That assumably kicked off her career, as before the feature, she was reportedly unknown.. I might not re-tell it quite right from memory, but I think Robin Frederick has that story in her book "Shortcuts to songwriting for film and tv" or Michael has had it in a newsletter or something..

Thanks Magne! You're right that IS a great story/example! I think I heard Robin tell that too, perhaps at the Rally!? LOVE that!

I WOULD love to hear from others (independant artists/songwriters) who didn't have that kind of luck, but still make a fair income on downloads....and by 'fair' I just mean....hmmm...something that makes it 'worthwhile' for that person to put it out there.

Hey Ullali,
I know what you mean. It is hard to make much on selling downloads or CDs. We are realistic. We know the odds are against us. But we figured we'd put the CD out there .. for sale .. so if we got a song in a film or if we got some good publicity, then the music would be available for the public. And we are trying for publicity and radio play .. it's just that we work slow at it .. like the toroise .. lol. It's fun to try.
We had 8 of the 10 songs signed to good libraries before we put out the CD. 5 are signed to an exclusive library, but they let you sell downloads and go for radio play.
I knoow 1 taxi member who trickles in about 50 usd per month for the past 10 years on downloads. To me that is pretty good. I'd be ok with that .. want more .. but that would be cool.

Dean

Hey Dean....thanks! Sounds like you have a great plan and great songs too, to get them placed in a library! BIG congrats!...and yeah I know about being 'slow'....all things take time and there are SO many options out there, you just have to chose carefully which ones you spend your time on. I know I have 'wasted' lots of time on 'non-productive sites' since I started....but then again, I always learn something new...AND you never really know!?

I would say almost ANYTHING (income wize) every single month for TEN years is awesome!!! WOW!...THAT is VERY encouraing to hear! That person must have something GREAT going on too!

Thanks for sharing!! :D
