Sometimes those dark pits where no one but the crazies roam sound the best
That makes me think though...maybe, just maybe I could score a real Studer at a garage sale?
I'm still on the look out for a 60's Gretsch kit for my jazz gigs. During the summer, I swear I visit 40+ garage sales every year. I've heard of too many musicians scoring great gear at ridiculous costs from a simple garage sale find. Besides...I bring my girlfriend along and turn it into a "healthy" relationship thing to do.
But on a second thought...do I really want to deal with tape?

I'll do that. I hadn't even thought of the soft tube. I have heard some great things about Cytomic's glue though. The glue's price isn't that bad either! Thanks for the tip.
More decisions...but I ain't complaining.

Yup! My drummer and I scored a matched pair of Sennheiser K2-U shotgun condensers at a garage sale. I about shat in my pants when I saw 'em!sethlit wrote: I've heard of too many musicians scoring great gear at ridiculous costs from a simple garage sale find.![]()

See, that is the problem, and why I went with the Fatso. When I was in recording engineering school, I HATED maintaining those suckers. Like pulling your own teeth! BUT, I recorded 100's of tunes on a Tascam 8-track, and never had to maintain it except to take it in to a techie now and then, and clean and demag the heads. Tape compression RULES! My richest, warmest, and loudest recordings were done on that recorder, even to this day.But on a second thought...do I really want to deal with tape?![]()

There's a video on the UA site about using the LA2A and 1176 together, it's worth watching.
Another less expensive plug I like is the Precision Enhancer, it's kinda like cayenne pepper, doesn't work on everything but on certain mixes in moderate doses it can make all the difference.

I need to get wayyyy more web site observant. I did not know there are plug in application videos on their page. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
