Nick,

Sorry I'm late to the party here - been editing, mixing and mastering my own little project. I love this tune. I think the lyrics are fine the way they are. I tried to find a place where I thought the vocals were too pitchy; where I would edit in another take or send the track through Melodyne, and couldn't. I think you did a great job singing this tune and correcting any of the few notes that aren't perfectly in tune would take away from the character of the vocals. That's just my opinion.

A couple of little things you might try (but they are just little things so I wouldn't worry about it):
- I thought the background "answer" vocals were a little too loud between 1:23 and 1:43. I found them to be a little distracting and not as subtle or lyrical as the rest of the tune. I like them; just think they could be a db or 1.5 dbs softer.
- The little organ part at the end was nice, but would be even nicer if you have a real good Hammond B3 patch, reminiscent of the organ in "Whiter Shade of Pale".

That's it and those are pretty nitpicky. Great job.

Don

Hi Nick, I'm late to the party here too, I'm learning Protools and Kontakt and there is much to learn. I gotta tell you though, what struck me (and I've noticed this before in your music but just now figured out how to put it into words) is that you've got a strong R&B streak. Maybe focusing on updating the R&B vibe like Adelle or Duffy, et. al. may be your niche! You've got the voice and a great rhythmic and melodic feel for it. Ken

Don, thanks for chipping in. Yeah, that vocal bit. I was trying to get a swell in the b/vox that snatches your breath, but the lead vox is getting in the way. Needs work. You know how if you paint a wall you always spot the bit you missed...? Well, that's what I'm like singing. There's always a pitchy bit (lol).

Ken, thanks for the comments. It's sometimes difficult to see the wood for the trees, so it's really useful guidance for me to be told what I sound like. I will give what you have said some careful consideration, thanks.

Re-work due soon. Thanks.

Nick

Hi Nick,I really like the song and I think having a slightly more acoustic approach is a great idea.

When I listened to the vox James Taylor came to mind and Paul Young Sorry!

There's a lot of soul in your voice.

Looking forward to the next version.

Michael.

Nice track. Good work on the vocals.
Definite James Taylor feel, and yes, at times the vox are reminiscent of Paul Young, but he does have a great voice, so take that as a compliment! :)

All sounds good to me.

Dave.

Seriously, gents, thanks for the compliments.

I don't mean to be negative, it's just that the image I have of Paul is as a complacent, overweight, slightly lost and faded star. But he did have something to offer, it's true.

Let's put him back in the drawer now, can we? (LMAO). Thanks.

Nick
