Hip-Hop Placement

Hey All,Matto and I just heard from one of our publishers about a great placement that he got for us last night on a successful show about models. You probably know which one I mean since we can't mention names on the boards.Anyway the reason I'm posting this is to say a little bit to those members that don't believe that TAXI leads to deals and eventually to putting money in your pockets. And also to say a little something about relationship building for those that are just getting their first deals.The tune that was placed last night was NOT a direct forward from TAXI. However, the tune that got us in the door with above mentioned publisher was absolutely a direct forward. We saw a listing looking for Reggeaton songs and we took a crack at writing one. We got the forward and as many of you have no doubt experienced, it just seemed to go off into thin air and disappear.Eventually (5 months later) we got the call from the publisher but lo and behold we no longer had the song available! Still, the door was open, so we thought carefully about a response. We knew that we could write another track as good given enough time. We discussed how long it would take us to put together not one but two great tracks and we crafted a thankful response that expressed our desire to work with him. In the end we delivered the tracks as we had promised.That led to a co-write with an artist he was representing, that then led to writing some Hip-Hop cues, that finally led to the track that got placed! So the whole process took close to a year and half to come to fruition. And yet it all leads directly back to TAXI!!!!The points to be taken from this little tale of ours are as follows:1. TAXI works.2. When opportunity comes knocking be ready and confident in your abilities.3. Take your time and think through your correspondence with the people you make deals with.4. Honor your committments. This is a subtlety that registers on both a conscious and unconscious level with those you do busineess with. It's the little things that undermine other's confidence in you.5. Be patient and let the process take it's course.6. Have faith and get back to writing more songs. Although Matt and I recently wondered what if anything would happen with the cues we wrote, we weren't sitting around fiddling our fingers and waiting by the phone. It's better to get that surprise e-mail anyway!!7-10 TAXI WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!All the best from your fellow dots,Cisco and Matto

hey cisco & matt,congrats - and I couldn't agree more with point 1 - 10; all my placements on mtv shows (in 6 diffrent shows) happened exactly this way. you never know what happens next und which person in your network is going to bring you the next placement - so handle them carefully and act professional.cheers,martin

Cisco,Thank you SO much for your post here. Something I'm needing to read right now...I've just found out that my first deal offer is for a new library catalog being put together that won't even be release until Jan. of 2009!!! Not only will I need to be VERY patient with "it", I am WASTING everybody's time if I don't get right back to work.I especially liked your points 7-10.

This also marks my first hip-hop placement on national tv...so... Wassup my dizzles...or is that dotizzles?? (Where is the bling smiley??)Btw, you *can* name shows on this board, just not publishers. So yeah it's "America's Next Top Model"...(and this placement was by a different publisher than the ones I previously had on that show).

And what a great lesson to learn-- how to handle the situation when those songs are no longer available. After reading your post, I feel like I've already had a year of music college.
