Hi Brett, I'm no expert, just getting to know the listings myself

As both have vocals I say submit to anything that sounds in an ala ballpark asking for singer/songwriter and/or if slightly unsure, and it says will critique, send anyway ! I think the critiques are mint!!

Sorry if my answer is teaching to suck eggs, you have more experience than I of taxi with the 20 submissions!

Ahh and an idea I recently had was to try some instrumental mixes of songs too and see if that opens up a whole new world

I'm not able to load the file.
And I don't know the url for your taxi page.

Maybe put up a direct link in your post, or in your signture?\

best,
nick

It's been my experience that if after a few attempts a song doesn't get past the screeners, it's probably best to shelf it and move on. Hmm probably not exactly what you wanted to hear

Hi Brett, Wow good singing chops with the high falsetto and all but the production is lacking! I'm beginning to hear it more because I lack the production chops myself. When pitching for film/tv your production must be "broadcast quality" and that includes the performance. Often in the listing there will be an "a la" that references another artist. Go listen to the referenced artist and compare your recording to theirs to see if your production is on par with theirs! Then rework your production until it can compete with the "a la"! I find myself in the same boat as you so good luck and keep working it! Ken

THx Ken,,,yes the production is a learning point still for me but on the 1:30 song i thought it was produced very well by a friend with every UA(universal audio ) plugin imaginable and Omnisphere on the Strings,,,,,,the second tune is fully produced by me and has a dated eighties drum and production sound,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I am using a mac now and mpowered PT ,,,,,,blecch,,,,next upgrade is Pro tools 9,,,,,,,,,,,,,mpowered doesn't even fade/crossfade! Good for a beginner though. .....What interface do you use? I use a fast track ultra Maudio,,,blecch,,,

I have faith in both of these tunes and i wrote them for film specifically,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Brett Lemos

Aside from the production.... I thought I heard a compressor kick in as the singing was going on... the vocal level dropped suddenly ...

The singing style, while good, is not exactly mainstream universal.... It reminded me a lot of Bowie, which tends to place it into a very, very narrow spectrum of usability when it comes to film & TV.

I would venture to say that the singing style has been a major player in the returns.

For an idea of what gets forwards, go to the top of this forum and browse the FORWARDS forum and listen to the songs that have gotten forwards (if the person posts the link & title)

For my part, I have had several forwards of instrumentals, none of my vocal works have been forwarded. So if one thing isn't working, try something else.

Also, writing FOR a listing as opposed to trying to fit YOUR existing song into a listing will often lead to better results. These were actually the forwards I got.
