Re: listing Y110427RK
This listing asks for music with the feel of Peter Gabriel, Sting, U2 etc. Gave them a tune that they say captures the Peter Gabriel sound beautifully; however is 'stylistically' off target. Huh???
I read and re-read every listing I post to and it still does not help. I continue to wonder what exactly that Taxi is actually looking for??
I am starting to think that there is a clique that gets forwarded and promoted on Mondays on the live webcast. The only songs that were even considered for Kara's listening last Monday were three (3), yeah only three, songs that were not even sent, they were hand picked by Taxi. Why would we get excited about sending anything for anyone if it's only a few, and I mean slim pickens few that ever will be heard?
Oh, and Michael, this has NOTHING to do with not trying with every breath. I begin to wonder if the listings are only for the few; those that are known to the Taxi staff.
YOU DO KNOW THAT YOU ASKED FOR PETER GABRIEL-LIKE MUSIC. Thats what was sent; how can it be 'stylistically off target'???? D.B.

Which song is the song you sent in for the listing?

I don't know if I'm part of the "clique" or not, but I do seem to get as many rejections as forwards still and I've been at this for several years. I've also managed to sign virtually every single rejection with libraries anyhow. It's hard to know what may or may not have kept your song from getting forwarded without hearing it, but I'm not really buying the conspiracy theory. What would be the point? Taxi wants (needs) your money and they know they won't get it if you don't experience some level of success with them.

If you don't have the special decoder ring and the secret logo on your Taxi page-- the one that tells the screener to "Auto-Forward", you are obviously not in the "clique"...

Re: listing Y110427RK
In this business, you lose more than you win, that's just the way it is. Rejection is a part of being a composer/songwriter/musician, and sometimes the rejections make no sense (at least to us) and often it's because we can't hear our own music in the same way the client hears it. Sometimes something can sound, production-wise, like the referenced artist and still be off track stylistically because of the writing or some other thing or two.
There are a few things you can control in this business:
1. The quality of your work
2. The skill at which you choose what pieces to submit
3. Your ability to handle rejection
4. Your attitude
5. Your people skills
What you can't control:
1. If your piece is chosen or not
2. Pretty much anything that happens between the time you submit and whether or not you are contacted by the client
I suggest, for sanity, if not for anything else (like helping your success), that you focus on what you have control over, because the better you are at those things, the more influence you can have on the things you can't control.
Feedback and Rejection are two perceptions of the same thing.
Keep at it.

Re: listing Y110427RK
So what you are saying Dave, is that every member who has found success thru Taxi has done so because we have somehow been "hand picked" by Taxi (uhmm...how would they have known about us in the first place)?
If this is what you are saying, then on behalf of all successful Taxi members, thank you for insulting every one of us, our talent, and our years of hard work and dedication to our craft!
Way to go!

David, I'm going to give you some honest feedback on why Taxi may not want to forward your songs, to listings like the one above. I listened to about 5 of your songs, just to get a feel. You sing great, but you don't sound like those 3 singers in the listing description.singer1 wrote:This listing asks for music with the feel of Peter Gabriel, Sting, U2 etc. Gave them a tune that they say captures the Peter Gabriel sound beautifully; however is 'stylistically' off target. The sound of Peter Gabriel singing and the sound of you singing are radically different. So are your music tracks. I'm only telling you that because I have a feeling you might not believe that yet. If you choose to ignore my comment, that's fine too.
Sting, Gabriel & Bono use very little vibrato. If someone convinced you that your music or voice sounds like Gabriel, they were incorrect. No amount of wishing it to be true, will make your voice sound like any of the above. Unless you start singing with no vibrato AND you find the intensity that those singers have when they are either quiet or loud. Most of your tracks feature you singing wonderfully, but in your unique style, which is not the same as the singers mentioned. Your style does not use as many quiet dynamics. Most of your notes are long and held, and you like using the power in your voice.
You could choose to sing more like those other singers... but I think you're better off singing more like yourself. Look for listings where they ask for David Clayton Thomas style singing, and you'll hit those out of the park.
And if it's any consolation, I've personally LOVE to be able to sing the way you can.
