The Indirect Taxi Successes

Post by Casey H » Thu May 26, 2011 6:34 pm

I think it's always important to give credit where credit is due. Many folks encounter succcesses that were not a direct result of a Taxi submission and forward but were clearly a result of the overall Taxi experience which includes accumulated knowledge from critiques (even returns teach you something), the forum, the Road Rallies, the relationships, etc.

I had one of those successes tonight. An instrumental co-write I did with another Taxi member got signed by a highly selective, very successful library.

If I never went to the Road Rally, I wouldn't have met and developed a relationship with my co-writer. And when I went to my first rally, I really wasn't at all thinking of writing pure instrumentals, not realizing how marketable they can be. But getting to know folks like matto and others taught me. I started looking at unfinished songs and when they weren't working as a song, changed gears and went for instrumentals. Without a doubt, Taxi and friends motivated me along those lines.

It's been almost 5 years since that first rally. This year will be my 5th rally. I know I've grown a ton in these 5 years (not just in my mid-section). At the time of my first rally, I had pretty much stopped writing new music thinking I had no more ideas left in me. The rally and Taxi peeps changed all that.

Anyway, I just want to say, "Embrace the whole Taxi experience"... It's not all about a few submissions and returns. It's so much more.

Credit where credit is due. Thank you Taxi!

 Casey

Well Said.....

I was in the same boat last November when I went to my 1st Rally and was basically in Musicians limbo - not knowing what to do or where to go - just that I wanted to do it in music - since that Rally Ive had a few small placements and then a nice decent one on NBC's the Voice just this past week, I can honestly say if it wasn't for the road Rally, the people who I have had the opportunity to interact with (Robyn Frederick is at the top of my list of people to thank for my current successes at next years rally) like Matt Hirt, Craig Dodge and other awesome composers who were both open and helpful (so weird in the music biz to experience that) I never would be where I am now - with a clear vision and goal and path on how to get there.

Ive only gotten a few forwards and yet to actually get a deal through Taxi - but every deal I have had to date in licensing I credit to taxi - it wouldnt have happened if I hadnt decided to go to the Road Rally.

Thanks TAXI and all the taxi people who make this type of job so much fun to be a part of!! :D

PS - Cant wait for next years Rally!!

Well, I haven't anything to report in the "deal" folder yet, but I do believe my composing chops get better every day because of the people of Taxi and their comments and help. Three Cheers for Taxi -

And by the way, listened to yours and Allen's Flamenco Riders again - most excellent track. Congrats on a well deserved placement!
