Re: My First Ad Placement
Congratulations....what a fun time! Weddings and checks!
I would also (along with CherBear) like to here more about the stems that you sent. I am intrigued by the thought of having to break up a song into bits and pieces. Last Monday's interview on Taxi TV talked about stems also, and not letting them get tooooo broken out.

Re: My First Ad Placement
They want to have the ability to completely remix the song if need be, while keeping it close to my original mix. The creative director said their main focus is going to be on the hand claps and drums. But they also wanted every track separate. So I figured I would give them a file mixed and panned just like I had it and then another dry and panned in the center so they would have all the options they need.
I use Logic, so for the midi drums I opened up the Ultrabeat window for my kit and solo'd the particular drum and bounced that drum track as a wav file (24 bit by the way. I always make sure to give them the highest quality possible). And repeated that process for each drum part and track. I also kept track of my original settings (panning, volume, effects levels, etc.), so I wouldn't lose my original mix.
From what I've heard from the Taxi TV and some of you guys on the forum, this is not the norm for major ads and supervisors wanting stems. They tend to just want a drum and bass file, vocal file, guitars file, instrumental, etc. But I have had to do this before for some local jingles I did, so I was somewhat prepared.

Re: My First Ad Placement
Congrats Paul!! Awesome news!
I can't wait to hear it up here in Seattle too! And a ditto "thanks" on sharing those details. Just curious, I imagine they needed the stems ASAP. Did they give you any time frame on them? I'm sure an all nighter could take care of getting the bounces done, but since Michael first talked about the need for stems, I've been wondering how long you usually get.
Again nice work Paul, I too have to say that I'm not surprised!

Re: My First Ad Placement
Thanks guys. Seth, I was talking with the creative director last week and he basically told me it wasn't a huge hurry, but that they would be starting pre-production next week (meaning this week). I got it done in a day and sent it to him last week only because I was leaving town Thursday and I wanted to get them to his ears early so if he had any problems with them he could address them this week and I would be ahead of the game.
