Got a commercial!
Though not through Taxi, I got a piece placed in a commercial for a major chain of pizza restaurants in Western Canada. This chain has over 175 locations in Canada but most are located in BC and Alberta. A friend I made on an online forum for one of my favourite guitar brands does audio/video work for this chain's ad agency.
I saw the ad run twice during the NHL Stanley Cup finals on Hockey Night in Canada so far. I know many of you may not be familiar with this but up here, it's huge! And with the Vancouver Canucks in the final against the Boston Bruins, it means that millions of Western Canadians have now heard my music. It's playing on all the major networks out there as well, not just on Hockey Night in Canada and will air all summer.
They used this tune:

and you can see the ad if you search for my channel on Youtube: dturbide
Although I'm no longer a member, Taxi got me started on this road so I thought I should thank them here.
The only negative is that in Canada, there are no automatic performance royalties for tv commercials under 60 seconds in length. I am getting tons of exposure though. Let's hope it opens a lot of doors.

Congrats Denis!
That's awesome! I've said elsewhere how Taxi doesn't always get enough credit for the indirect successes-- stuff that happens because of what we learned as members, contacts we made, etc.
Sucks about the lack of PRO royalties...
Here's to MANY more placements!

Re: Got a commercial!
Just thought Taxi deserved a little credit. When I first started recording my original music, I'd never thought of trying to get it into tv/movies but Taxi opened that door for me. When I was a member, I got plenty of forwards and now I've got music on about a dozen different libraries although nothing has really panned out yet. Taxi opened my eyes to the possibilities and that's a good thing.

That's a great piece of music Denis. What tuning are you playing in? Do you know of Canadian acoustic guitarist Les Finnigan?

Very cool Denis, congrats! Your acoustic sounds awesome, what does one have to do to get an acoustic guitar to sound so great besides being a great player? Again congrats!

Thanks. There are two guitars. One is a standard, the other is a baritone tuned Bb to Bb.Mark Crozer wrote:That's a great piece of music Denis. What tuning are you playing in? Do you know of Canadian acoustic guitarist Les Finnigan?
No, I've never heard of Les. I'll google him though. Thanks

Thanks everyone. I got an email from the ad agency and they are now airing the 15 second version of the ad in Ontario as well as through Western Canada. A few more $ and tons more exposure!

Denis,
Love the tune! I'm a guitarist also and the fingerpicking you do is great! A baratone guitar, I've heard of them but never played one. I guess thats where the richness comes from? What are you using for a pre-amp?
Best

Re: Got a commercial!
Not using a preamp. For the time being, my signal chain is an Audio Technica AT2035 side address condenser through a Shure x2U signal adapter into the usb port right to Garageband. I'm thinking of picking up a second condenser and a new interface. I'm getting Logic and want to be able to record 2 tracks of guitar in stereo. Any suggestions for the interface? I was thinking of an M-Audio like this one:
