contract to license music for internet use only??

Post by davidlandon » Wed Jul 06, 2011 9:23 am

HI there,
First time I use the forum even though I have been a Taxi member a ling time. Anyway, I just got commissioned to write a tune for a company and they want to use it for their web site for a flat fee- which I am fine with, But I don't want to loose ownership of the tune as a "work for hire". Rather I want to license them to use this track for anything they want to on the internet and then should they decide they want it for TV radio or anything else then they have to pay again for those licenses. Does anyone know of a resource where I can get a standard contract like this and what that contract is called? Thank you in dvance for your input.

Hi David,

Contact them with your wishes, arrive at an agreement, write it up and send it to them for signature.
You can licence your music under whatever terms you wish. They either go for it or they don't.

Or of course you can get representation to handle all that kind of stuff.

If an off the shelf document doesn't exist, you can find the nearest and then change to suit to save some time with the legalise.
Just be clear about what you want.

Hope this helps.
