A "Gritty" Ad Agency forward

Post by keithl » Tue Aug 16, 2011 9:35 pm

A email forward after a long, long, long, long, long work day is so nice!

LEADING NY AD AGENCY needs ORIGINAL, GRITTY, MASCULINE ROCK or NEO-BLUES INSTRUMENTAL TRACKS for a Global Telecom company's next national TV Commercial. Quoting the Agency, "I'm looking for Gritty, Masculine INSTRUMENTALS that are Mid-to-Up-Tempo. something RAW and MANLY without being overly aggressive. While not ruling out any type of instrumentation, the tracks should feel 'real.'" In other words, give the Agency a track that sounds like a REAL band or artist and NOT like a music library track. Submissions need to be Full-Length (with faded endings) and CONTEMPORARY sounding! AVOID Classic Rock, Metal, or anything that's too freneticÑleave the Deep Purple and System of a Down stuff on the shelf and send them TRACKS that sound like they'd get played in the same set as Black Keys ("Tighten Up," "Ohio," etc.), Kings of Leon ("Notion," "Radio Active," etc.) or the White Stripes ("Fall in Love With a Girl" or "Icky Thump" on the electric side, or "Hotel Yorba" on the acoustic side). DO NOT copy or rip off these artists or songs in any way, shape or form. Use them as a guide for Tempo, Texture and Vibe ONLY. Yes, an acoustic/electric track COULD work if it's truly gritty, and not pretty. They're looking for CATCHY, RHYTHMIC GRIT with a little dirt, hair, and sweat on it. Gritty MODERN Blues COULD work, but AVOID guitar solosÑthey tend to clash with voice-overs

Sounds Great! Very gritty and those drums are kist loose enough to swagger "without being overtly macho".

AND - thank you for posting your link that way. I was able to listen to it on my iPhone (the flash player on the hosting pages doesn't let me listen.....)

That is a very impressive track. I also submitted to to this listing and got a return . After hearing yours, I would have forwarded yours way before my own. You should be very proud.
Good luck to you.

Congrats,
Great sounding track. Are those MIDI drums? If so which brand. The snare is great.

I submitted for this also but got returned with the comment “… Too slick and not raw enough ...”. Tempo and energy-wise, I felt that it was in the ballpark but your track makes me realize exactly what they were looking for. You hit the “gritty neo-blues” right on target.

Great work and thanks for posting! I’ve found that listening to you guys’ tracks that get forwarded is the best advice there is for interpreting the ads (along of course with the Monday evening Taxi streams).
