EWQL symphonic orchestra 50% off

Post by ochaim » Mon Sep 19, 2011 9:46 am

Just fyi for those who have been for a sale on symphonic orchestra. Even the upgrades are available at half off.

Anybody who has the close mic part, would they be close and dry enough for, say, strings in a disco type piece? Yah, I'm probably give that 70's disco listing a try.

Or is something like NI's string session (pro?) More appropriate? I may just have to with a loop pack as a last resort.

I think either the close EW or the session strings would be fine. I would seriously consider if you are only going to get one mic position, get the mid. You can turn off the release tails and use the built in reverb in Play if you want to. I think the close mic'd samples are good for accentuating things in the mix, but don't sound as good or are as versatile as the mid samples.

Can you post the text of the 70s disco listing? I can't seem to find it.

Thanks!

Here you go:
'70s-STYLE DISCO PRODUCER/WRITERS a la Donna Summer, Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, etc., needed by a Record Label focusing on film/TV licensing. SONGS and/or INSTRUMENTAL submissions are OK. They're looking to develop a roster of talented people who can follow a music brief and deliver HIGH-QUALITY tracks quickly! Songs/tracks must sound AUTHENTIC to the time period. If you've got the real thing-an actual track recorded in the '70s in this style-then go ahead and submit, they will make single-track deals. If submitting SONGS, make sure your lyrics will fit a variety of scenes and the VOCAL PERFORMANCES ARE CLEARED for film/TV use. You must own or control 100% of your master recording and publishing. This is an exclusive deal with a 50/50 split. Broadcast quality needed (excellent home recordings are fine.) Please submit one to three songs and/or instrumentals online or per CD, include lyrics (if applicable.) All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, October 10, 2011.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mazz. I already have the regular mid one.

When you say turn off the tails, do you mean reduce the release on the envelope so you don't get the sampled tails/reverb? Then adjust the reverb to get your own tails however much shorter you need?

I tried that before, didn't like the way it sounded, but I'll give it another go see if i can save myself a few bucks!

I'm interested in hearing about the release thing too... I've been using the mid's in Gold to do some cues where the bigness of room sound was a bit much. I toned it done fairly well using the SPL Deverb plug (pretty cool little plug), but it's not ideal. Was thinking of buying the close mics add-on for $119 (too bad it's not on sale too!). I don't really want/need the 24-bit of Platinum and don't wanna pay extra for the P-Plus either.

Would love to pick up Session Strings Pro down the road.

It's too bad I didn't wait a few weeks top buy EWQLSO too... could've saved $50 :) !

If you look at the articulations window of the player view, you can turn off the release trails, which are actually separate articulations, for an instrument patch. Never tried it myself, but the option is there.

Okay, I do seem to recall that from the manual. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Hey guys,
Which EWQL edition do you use? Silver or Gold?
I can't really tell the difference, other than it says "essential mic positions' and "all mic positions."

I need great strings NOW for a publisher that wants 2 tracks for a TV special but hates (understandably) the Logic strings.

Thanks in advance!!

Hey,
I recently bought Gold and that is likely what you'll want since Silver has much less articulations which would limit its use. My only wish is to remove some of the natural ambience from the sound at times. Apparently you can lessen this by turning off the release tails though. Or if you get Platinum and you'll get the close mic also.
