JAMS - Is auxiliary percussion welcomed?
This is my 1st road rally. I am curious about the JAMS.
My main instrument is the drums and was considering bringing a few small auxiliary percussion (shakers, etc) Would that be a welcomed addition to the jams?
I know some guitar players don't care for any accompaniment at all. I am just curious what the vibe is.
Thanks,
Rich

Oh definitely! Shakers, etc would be really cool and very welcome. As for the people who don't like rhythmic accompaniment... we find 'em pretty quick and pitch them into the swimming pool.

The only guitar players (or any players for that matter) that I've known that didn't like percussion accompaniment were ones that couldn't keep time if they locked it in a safe!!
Bring it on!

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Very cool to hear!
I also have an Akai XR20, that is sick as hell that I sometimes use for aux percussion. In that context I don't use it as a drum machine
but play the pads live. But I would need to plug into an amp, so I probably will leave it behind.

Just keep in mind that these are impromptu jams, not elaborate productions, so definitely don't bring amps or taiko drums...RichardCharles wrote:Very cool to hear!

The nice thing about acoustic guitars, shakers etc is that they are relatively quiet instruments so people can jam without creating a lobby filling ruckus which would prevent others nearby from having a conversation.

Taiko drum *would* be cool.matto wrote:Just keep in mind that these are impromptu jams, not elaborate productions, so definitely don't bring amps or taiko drums...![]()

One year (at the other hotel) a lady brought a Koto (see example pic below, it's an example, not a Rally pic). Also a very cool instrument but not exactly portable.

So Dave... Are you saying I shouldn't bring my keys?
