Another 80's return (not 100% sure why!?!?)
I submitted a track to the 80's listing which got returned. Just the music box was checked in the review. Is it too 80's sounding (ie mix?)
the track is titled Hot Blooded Summer on my taxi page.
Thanks
MIKE

Can you post a link to your Taxi page please? Probably be best in your signature like others but in the post/thread be fine as well.

Re: Another 80's return (not 100% sure why!?!?)
Hey Mike,
I was finally able to give your song "Hot Blooded Summer" a listen. The first thing that struck me as needing work was the drums. They sounded like a drum machine. What drums are you using?
The next thing was, the guitars didn't have that 80s rock sound/tone.
I decided to give a number of your songs a listen and it seems to be a number of your songs have an odd drum sound. I got to Easy Breezy and for a moment they sound good (mainly the snare) and then reverted back... as if the mix/mastering caused them to be less realistic.
You have a lot of diversity in your music and a lot of talent to be able to get the different vibes you have going. So... you have no lack of music talent. I'd say your weakness, imho, is mixing... somewhat and lack of knowledge on how to make realistic drum sounds. It's not hard to have fake sounding drums... I know lol. It only takes over compressing them and a few wrong tweaks and even real drums can sound a bit fake. Listen to Joan Jett - I love Rock 'n Roll. Those drums sound a bit fake early on but it works in that song.
I'll wait and see what drums you are using and maybe I can help.
Talk to ya soon,
Rob
EDIT: Btw, my song "Tattle Tale" was returned too and that sounds pretty 80s to me. My song "Flying" and "Trading Fire" was forwarded... if you want to check those out for future reference as to what made it and what didn't by the same person.

Re: Another 80's return (not 100% sure why!?!?)
Hey Rob,
Thanks for listening. I checked out your tracks. I guess I should have went for a 80's metal sound.
I tried to nail down the drum sound on Billy Idol's "White Wedding", I think I came pretty close. I used Native Instruments Abbey Road Modern Drums.
I guess I gotta do I little more research on nailing down that snare sound!
Thanks

Oh dude, those Abbey Road modern drums are kick ass!!! I still haven't picked up Komplete 8... just other things taking my limited funds right now...heheMike Barresi wrote:Hey Rob,

Anyway, it's not metal that won the day for 2 of my songs... it's how they are played and how realistic they sound... to the era and as if a band played them. I intentionally steered clear of over doing the drums to leave enough raw sound so they stayed real sounding. You have to with Taxi. They are real finicky about fake drum sounds... Seriously, if someone was to submit Joan Jett - I love Rock 'n Roll, they'd probably say the drums are too fake lol.
I thought your song was good, but when I listen like I imagine a Taxi screener would.. I get nit picky and then I feel like your drum mixing needs some work. PLEASE don't take it the wrong way. I am only trying to help with constructive criticism the best I can. Sometimes less is more... seriously.
Good Luck in the future and try not to let the returns discourage you.
Rob
EDIT: Hopefully someone else will listen and see what they have to say. They might disagree with me... I'm not perfect hehe.
