Favourite Panels/Classes

What are a couple of your favourite Rally sessions? There are soooo many great ones but I'll limit mine to 2 past ones and one new.

1. Jason Blume's Melody Master Class: This one actually changed the way I write my tv cues. Before this class, I was paying more attention to the vibe, groove of the cue and much less time developing melody. Pretty mind-blowing to me and he's such a great speaker.
2. Successful Members Panel: The bomb
3. Scoring CSI Miami with Kevin Kiner: I can't wait for this because I'm in the middle of a CSI Miami netflix marathon. I think I'm in season 6 and I like it a little more than Vegas (didn't think I would). The music is always top notch.

I am looking forward to the 5 Year Plan w/ Mazz on Sunday - I missed it last year. Also Networking with Dan Kimpel and the Getting Great Virtual Sounds with Matto.

Yeah KC! The Melody Master Class really just goes over what makes a song catchy...but those same techniques can be used in phrasing melodic ideas for instrumentals. Loved the 5 Year plan class as well, great to see our buds up there.

The stuff with Rob Chirialli (totally butched that spelling I know) and Ron Whats-His-Name (didn't do any better on that last name either). Anyway... last year at least they brought in the original multi-track recordings of Bohemian Rhapsody and Superstition. We listened track by track, they solo'd or muted various tracks and pointed out all kinds of cool things about the recordings, stuff you'd NEVER hear when everything is all together. For example... keyboard players... ever wonder why you could never *really* get the clavinet part in Superstition to sound right? It's because there's 7 separate tracks, one with a bouncy echo that by itself is almost unintelligible. But... put them all together and it's one of the coolest clavinet grooves ever. And impossible to play live all by our self.

1. I'm pretty excited about the RobC/RonH stuff also (Advanced Record Production), like Dave is; definitely.

2. Film TV pitch panel Sunday morning

3. The Mazz 5 year thingy - didn't see it on my printout, but I think I have an old one - wanna hit that one.

Also hoping to attend the Booking House Concerts workshop, Vocal Recording/Mixing, and the CSI Miami panel. is also high on my list. if I can, in addition to a thousand other things.

Hey also, in a convo with Mom ( ) just now, I realized that the time change for Daylight Savings occurs on the Saturday to Sunday transition the weekend of the Rally. So heads up everyone on getting outa the hay in time for your first gig Sunday morning.

The time change is a good thing, an extra hour of sleep or for those of us that don't sleep, an extra hour to hang!!!

For clarification, the 5 year plan class is co taught by Matt Hirt, Dave Walton and myself. Just want to get my friends' names in their too! Thanks for mentioning it.

Blume's classes are great, not just for songwriters.

The CSI live scoring should be awesome.

It's a strong schedule this year, quite inspiring already!

I've attended numerous Blume lectures and they never fail to leave me uninspired; he's an excellent presenter with bucketloads of useful info (and good dry humor too...). I've also dug on Dan Kimpel's info for networking - he's another solid presenter.

I forgot to mention one of the panels I'm most interested in: Creating Virtual Sounds, w/Matt and Kavin. This is an area I always seem to fall a little short in, and I'm pretty excited for this session.
