newbie question

Post by DelphiaBlize » Tue Nov 01, 2011 3:52 pm

hi folks. this is a silly question that i've tried to find the answer to but i can't. so, at the large panels where they randomly select CD's and play them for industry folks, do they want the CD's to just have one song on them, or can you put a full-length CD in there and if they pick it shout out "play number 7!".... I'm not very good at shouting in large groups, but wondering if it's necessary to burn off some CD's that are just of one song for that portion of the events.

thanks so much. i look forward to shaking hands, buying beers, and getting to know some new musicians :)

You'll be relieved to know that there's no shouting involved. :D When you drop the CD off at the collection table, you'll be asked to circle or somehow indicate which track should be played if it happens to get chosen. You also need your Taxi ID# scribbled on the CD somewhere. All of that can be done "on the spot". I *think* that's pretty much it. If I remember right, there might even be little stickers that you fill out and stick on to the CD. In any case they make it as easy as possible for everyone to drop a CD off.

There wasn't too much room for things to go completely haywire with this. See you at the Rally! Don't forget to bring/wear your dot (a round colored price sticker that we put on our name badges). See a name badge with a dot? It's a forum member! Makes it easy for everyone to find/meet each other ("You've got a dot... who are you?"). 8-)

Yes, if I recall (and I'm 99.9% sure), when you check in you get a kit of rally supplies which includes stickers for all the listening panels. You simply put your name, taxi ID #, genre, and track # on the sticker. So you can use CDs with multiple songs and they will play the track # you indicated.

One thing I remind people about is don't assume you'll get your CD back after the panel. Members CAN go to the drop box area afterwards and get their CD but it's pretty hectic with many hundreds of people and CDs. So take enough CDs with you so that the listening panel ones can be disposable.

See you there! I'll be the guy with a dot on his badge!

;) Casey
