Got my cue played at a listening panel!

Post by shanegrla » Mon Nov 07, 2011 9:03 pm

My song "Sunday Drive" (on my Taxi page) got played at the Film/TV listening panel. :D

The guy who was subbing (Steven Hillensomething, sorry can't remember) mentioned it would be good for a car commercial. Then he started talking about the importance of your cues being multi-useful for many different applications, etc. But he didn't specify one way or the other whether he thought mine was good for that or not. I'm taking it that since he did not ask for my CD afterward that it was a "not."

That's fine. I didn't go expecting any miracles or anything. It was just a nice learning experience all around.

Congrats! I wasn't at the panel but I just listened to your song and I like it...it's cool.

Sorry to hear he didn't grab a CD though.

Hi Shane,

I was a bit confused about the response and whether he thought your piece was good for multiple applications or not. Too bad he did not ask for a copy, but at least he did not start out saying it was all wrong. Seems to me you are headed in the right direction.

I really thought the piece started grooving when the guitar started, but it took some time to get there. If the likely application is a commercial perhaps you should edit it down to 59.5 and 29.5 seconds.

BTW this piece sort of reminds me of the music currently being by Regions Bank. Personally I can picture it being used for some retirement plan commercial or a fruit juice ad (it sounds like it recommends something good for you) or something like that. Thats three applications: cars, money, food. :)

Good luck.

Sorry to miss that (and you) at the Rally. (iirc, you introduced yourself briefly, but we didn't get to really talk; maybe next time)

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Mojo, I actually did see you there (I was at the A&R panel when they played your song -- great job btw!) but I didn't get the chance to say hello either. Sorry for that. It was such a whirlwind of a weekend, I didn't really get a chance to meet anyone I had planned to. I hope to rectify that next time.

Perhaps a few more whiskeys will help cure a bit of social anxiety of mine in that department. Of course, at over 10 bucks a shot (literally) that'll add up quite ferociously! But it was a good time anyway.

Hope to see everyone next time!

Shane,

I recall hearing that song played at the panel. For what its worth, I enjoyed it. I can hear it being used
in a commercial. It has sort of a happy and somewhat quirky sound to me. Good luck with it!
The Rally was awesome!

Yes. You're right, I heard your track also; such a jumble of Rally memories, and I think I didn't connect your name with your forum handle, though I now recall you mentioned it at the time, sorry. Yours sounded like something I'd forward; I was surprised they didn't take a CD from you also, but it's likely a matter of them already having that type of cue.

Yeah, a jumble of memories is a good way to put it. :P

Thanks, guys, for the support. Maybe I'll be able to talk to you all next time!
