I am actually not a fan of the Slate stuff. I bought their final stage compressor/limiter FG-X plug and was severely disappointed. I found a good deal online and heard from a few friends that it was great, but that's not my experience with it. Lots of distortion when I don't push the limiter all that much, crumby results, and it seems like it's buggy. Maybe it's buggy and that's why I think it sounds awful. Who knows. It definitely didn't impress me. Ozone does a much more effective job that that plug.

As far as tube emulation goes, I love SPL TwinTube plugin. Alas, it isn't 64-bit yet (those pesky bridges), and doesn't work 100% well with Cubase on OSX (the Cubase bypass function doesn't actually bypass the plugin for some odd reason). However, the sonic results with it are impressive. It works shockingly well on a master bus (with just the smallllllest amount of harmonic gain and saturation added). And it works even better on individual tracks. Especially drums and synth tracks. Just really beefs it all up and adds a little bit of grit and dirt or a lot if you want that. Very nice
