Hello from 2 year old 'Newbie'

Post by modal » Thu Nov 26, 2009 1:31 am

Hi All - just wanted to introduce myself. I've been a TAXI member for 2 years now and have just renewed my subscription for a 3rd. I registered with the forum in Aril 2008 but for some unknown reason have not said hello till now!I feel compelled to say something this morning as I had some tracks returned yesterday from a Dispatch listing and am feeling a little peeved! One track that has been forwarded 3 times before is suddenly no longer considered to be 'broadcast qualty'.Do the 'listeners / screeners' undergo any kind of standardisation training? Just so that there is some consistency, especially on the issue of broadcast quality. If it comes down to the personal opinion of the screener alone, surely it becomes a bit of a lottery.Apologies if I've put my moaning in the wrong place. Regards - Modal

The "broadcast quality" bar slowly inches upward over time for sure. But let's hear the tune to check it out.Nov 26, 2009, 3:31am, modal wrote:Do the 'listeners / screeners' undergo any kind of standardisation training? And sometimes the "screener" is the client themselves, so they may bring a different expectation to the table. Sometimes we don't know when the client is screening their own stuff, btw.If you're getting forwards, then you're on the right track for sure. You can always contact Taxi directly at the # up top of the forum for the fastest answer. Or share your music here (or over in "peer to peer" for upcoming submissions) as a way to tap into (and start your relationship with) the awesome folks here willing to share their knowledge.Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Devin - your obviously far too experienced, sensible & level-headed! I feel bad now for bringing it up! But seriously, you do raise some valid points and I take those on board. The easiest way to listen to this particular track at the moment (I've got 'public' turned off on my taxi music page) is on my web site:www.doriankelly.wordpress.comIt's called AscensionListing details are as follows:D091118ININSPIRATIONAL/UPLIFTING INSTRUMENTALS needed by a very successful Production Music Library who has placements with ABC, CBS, NBC, WB, Disney, Discovery, Lifetime, Fox, USA, etc. Instrumentals can be orchestral arrangements, simple/acoustic piano or guitar pieces, lilting/playful Alt Country/Singer-Songwriter tracks, etc. Overall tone must be heartwarming, inspiring, and/or uplifting. Tracks can range between 1-4 minutes in length - instrumental presentation must be top-notch! There's another thread that's talking about returns from this listing. It appears I'm not the only casualty!http://taxi.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa ... read=16873

Hi Modal.Welcome on the Forum...(though I am 'new'er' than you, LOL). Congratulations on your forwards too! Seems to me you are on the right track. Remember that screners are only human beings too, even if they are very higly skilled and trained. What I think is great may not be what you think is great. So back on the horse.I never thought about calling TAXI after getting returns...are they really OK with that? Great idea, thanks Devin!

If members call to complain about every single return, then I think those members are wasting everyone's time. But if, over the course of a year, a member calls once or twice for clarification after a return, I think that's reasonable.

Welcome Modal. I had a listen to 'Ascension'...nice piece. The strings sounded rather analogue to me. What are you using?Stuart

Hi Cardell - thanks for listening.I used East West Platinum strings on that track - a combination of 2 patches for each of the 5 string parts - if I remember correctly. When you say they sound a 'bit analogue' what do you mean exactly? I'm not sure if that's good or bad!Regards - Modal.

I thought the rest of the instruments sounded real...but the strings were sounding fake. Stuart
