To Screener #330, listing S111013SS, "Doesn't Bleed Away"

Screener #330

Thank you for taking the time to review my song, "Doesn't Bleed Away".
I'm sorry you had to listen to my bad singing on this one. :)

I wish there was a way to leave a note to the screener for each submission to explan some things about the song.
I knew my singing was off on that song, and was looking more for a review of the lyrics and melody. You did comment on the chours, which I'll look into about not repeating the bleeding line.
None of the instrumentation was "synthetic". I played the guitar and use morrocos for a steady shaker sound, which I recorded by hand for the whole time. Rather tiring. Ha

I wrote this song based on Ray Lamontagne's song: "Sarah"
I tried to come close to his style.

Anyway, I'm trying to make the songs as good as possible before I hire a great singer for the final recording.

Thanks,
Paul

Screening is done in the context of the listing so there would have been no way to know it was a "rough" and you wanted a more specialized critique.

What you need to do in a situation like that is a "custom critique". It's $20 and WELL worth it. Most important with that is you submit your goal for the song, a list of specific questions, etc. The screener will do a thorough review and address your questions. I can pretty much gaurantee you will be very pleased with the results.

Best of luck!
:) Casey

Just to add to caseys advice. I'd also have you understand that screeners score you on the listing also, and ...if it is a custom.... unless you are specific about where you are pitching your song to ( labels and publishers or film film tv ) they will often critique your song with one of those in mind.

is your song for Film/tv? then yeah 330 is the screener that specializes in that and he works with all the music sup's for the prime time dudes. He'd be excellent for that specific submission as long as you meet the criteria within the official listing

Come to think of it, 330 didnt like my singing either and gave me the kermit the frog card, he is not an easy one to impress is 330. Screener #79 is #226 is my fav, even though they sometimes tell me what I dont want to hear, they do it with intelligence. better than 330 who seems to just have an ear for whats clean and current in custom critiques, so I'd be wary of your custom critique and be specific in your questions towards the screener. Because I'm confident 330 can be a good screener for film/tv as long as your specific to him and tell him what listings you aim for. For example some listings actually look for pitchy singing, because believe it or not Bob Dylan is a crap singer yet .....if he is a crap singer and sounds like kermit the frog.... then why do people buy his records and listen to his voice? ;) Because it's raw and to a specific genre.

330 just wants you to sound like an angel on key. So I'd take his criticism with a pinch of salt.

Stephen

I appreciate the tips guys.

I was trying to get a critique for $5 instead of $20.

Thanks,

For what it's worth I don't think you have a bad voice at all. I wouldn't call this "bad singing." It's on pitch, nuanced and you have a voice I'd happily listen to if I heard it on the radio. It's not dissimilar to someone like James Taylor (only where his voice is whiny yours is actually pleasant to listen to.) Maybe there are some aspects of your phrasing that could be worked on and maybe there are places in the song where there are too many words to fit to the melody you're singing. But you can definitely sing. And for this kind of song your voice is an appropriate fit I think. I wouldn't hire a singer, I'd just work on your own technique (not that I'm an expert singer! My pitch is pretty wonky a lot of the time but I do have an ear for a good voice I think.)

Hope this helps.

Mark
