Well...I learned something new today, because until this thread, I did NOT klnow that Badfinger had recorded this song, too. I really like this version through the verses, but once the chorus hits, things go south. Also, the video gives the impression that the band is playing live, but Pete Hamm (on piano) is rocking back and forth, while is vocal is remaining consistently strong, which would defy "the law of sound" for a dynamic mic. Also, during the lead guitar solo, bass player Tom Evans is playing different notes on his bass, rather than what you hear in the track. Hey...I'm just nit-picky! In their defense, I know that Badfinger was a great band and many actual live clips on Youtube demonstate this fact.

If you never heard Harry's version, you'd think it was a pretty good song, but not their best.So imagine how they felt when they heard HIS version:Harry Nilsson's "Without You"What a voice! Talk about knocking out of the park. It's really no wonder we just assume it's Harry's song...because ever since this version, it IS his. Here's the song from '66 or '67 that got the Beatles' attention and made "Nilsson" their favorite American group:Harry Nilsson's "You Can't Do That"Sheer brilliance!

The high note on the out chorus STILL gives me chills. Might be fun to do a cover-I've seen rooms full of drunk people singing along with that huge chorus when it popped up on the jukebox-inspirational!

I loved all those guys. I keep thinking I want to write a country song with an opening along the lines of Badfinger's "No Matter What". Not sure how to pull it off yet.Cam
